The way to beat RI.....

I wish when I was a teenager I sucked at basketball like Doolittle and Manec. :)

Same here but chances are while they are good at things you're not they fall short at some things you are proficient at. Now it's time for you to do the unveiling.

I am just joking around because as fans we are so harsh to n these guys. You don’t get to practice at OU if you are not talented. You don’t get a scholarship if you are not gifted and you don’t play if you are not extremely gifted. Sometimes we seem to forget the guys we n the other teams are gifted too

I've watched them play a few times. They have good guards and are an experienced team.

So beat them in the paint. Lots of McBeace, post Mabel and dribble drive penetration. Get them in foul trouble.

From Guerin Emig...

If Young responds like he did the first time against Oklahoma State or the first time against Kansas or anytime in 2017... If comrades Christian James and Khadeem Lattin repair their broken body language... If Brady Manek makes his first 3-points and Rashard Odomes finishes his first drive...

If all of that occurs, the Sooners can beat Rhode Island and take their chances against a Duke team nearly as allergic to defense as they are.

Looks like Andre’s shots consists of using his bulk to back in and shooting baby hooks? At 270, is Polla the only one that can matchup size wise and hold ground?
Seems like in the NCAA tournaments the refs allow the bigger players to bang into the defenders and push them off the block?

He averages 9 ppg. I wouldn't worry about him right out of the gate. Even though Lattin and McNeace aren't great defenders, or heavy, both are probably better than most of the guys this dude has played against.

Just foul him out when he plays defense. Trae driving and a lot of post passing. I don’t see him being able to handle Jumani’s heifgt, speed and athleticism advantage.

Not great for OU if they (RI) can control the tempo. I know they won't slow down our offense. The question is, can our offense, and defense, speed them up? And if they are slowing it down, will that actually benefit our defense some?

according to Avery Johnson of Bama...no. The longer we play D per possession the easier it is to score against us.

He's really a good rebounder so it's imperative that Lattin and McNeace keep him off the offensive glass. The key to their offense is Terrell who, at 6'3", can really score.

Their defense is what got them the #7 seed, however. They're really good at turning teams over. OU has to take care of the ball, not something they've done well this season. They're really good defending the 3 but not good at keeping teams off the foul line. OU has to penetrate and look to score or get fouled inside.

I haven't looked at his individual rebounding numbers, but as a team, RI is a horrible rebounding team.

I like that they foul a lot. Should be a good game for TY to penetrate and either get fouled, shoot a floater, or kick it. Odomes might have some success too. Sounds like the plan on offense needs to be attack, attack, attack.

I'm actually feeling pretty decent about this game. Unless we just can't make a shot at all, I think we get the W.

OU can beat RI if they shoot well, if not just be like the other games and OU will get beat..maybe bad.

I don’t think OU needs to shoot well. I think they need to play smart. When I. The half court look for Manek to shoot over his man. He will have at least a five inch inch height advantage. Look for McNeace and Lattin to use their speed against the wide body center. Look for Young and Odomes to penetrate. Kick it back to James and McGusty for open threes. Just don’t force stuff.

And out rebound this smaller and presumably less athletic team.

Berry actually plays only about 17 mpg -- I guess it's tough lugging 275 up and down the court -- but he's an excellent rebounder on both ends while he's in there. I really only mentioned it because our bigs aren't anywhere close to 275 and aren't that strong and could be really pushed around inside. We'll need Doolittle to play well.

Based on how well they defend the 3, they may not leave shooters on dribble penetration. Our guys would, therefore, have to look to score, not dish, when they drive.

I don't think this will be a big mismatch athletically. Rhode Island obviously doesn't play in a Power 5 conference, but they aren't a low major, either. It'd be wrong to think this is like playing an Ivy League team that has to rely solely on execution and discipline.

I am talking about Jumani and to a lesser extentLattin compared to their 275lvs center. Jumani is a freak of nature. Virtually no one is as big as he is and that athletic. I think both of our centers will/should have a speed advantage and the 275 guy will/should have a strength advantage.

I think Manek will have a significant height advantage over the person defending him and it should be exploited.

I am not suggesting that Rhode Island is going to have a big athletic ability deficit across the board but I do think our guys should generally have advantages over their guys.

They played against taller teams all year...if OU shoot good they win if not game could turn ugly

I doubt they faced a team like OU where the best three point shooter is 6’9” and a player like Trae that demands your best defender.
