This team has no upside or potential. Zero, nada, zilch.

Agreed. Cutting kids loose is a copout for a coach not evaluating talent. This is Capel's ship and he is sinking with it.

Maybe it's Joe C. who should cut someone loose.

So wait... You're saying you'd rather keep all these kids?

I'd prefer to see Capel fight for his job, cut a couple of the guys, and bring in some more talent. But I guess I'm just crazy for wanting a better start next season than the one we have.

I think, and this is just my opinion, that outside of Hardrick, we have some talent that can win given the right direction. A new coach can do wonders by teaching tough hard nosed defense, and blocking out. Not to mention Capel has no rhyme or reason to his substitution patterns or what he wants to run on offense.

We arguably have the least amount of talent of any team in the Big 12.

We have a walk-on getting minutes every game! A WALK ON!

I am tired of people talking about the talent on this team. Yes, some players have some great upside. But otherwise, we're horrible.

Nick Thompson, solid passer decent 3 point shot. Aside from that he's horrible. Worst rebounding center I've ever seen at OU, horrible on the ball defense and even worse help defense. And he's a starter.

Capel signed kids that nobody else wanted. We got them in the super late period and stole them from D-2 schools. A lot of these guys are not Big 12 level talent. (Not all of them mind you, but a decent amount)

When was the last time OU started a season 3-5? Arizona built a 10 point lead by the 17 minute mark and have led by double digits and 20+ ever since. They just dont even have a chance. They can't do any thing.

Thats the kicker with this team... You would think a team that sucks really bad might get better as the season goes along. I really dont think this team will. They dont have athletes, they dont have shooters, they dont have size, and they dont have tremendously talented players that can gel and potentially get better.

At least last years team (who won 13 games) had legit young talent and kept you hoping that they would put it together and get a lot better.

This team has no potential, at all. What we see today is pretty much what
we are going to look like all year.

*Note, as I type this Arizona just cleared their bench and have all the walk-ins playing, up 23 points and the crowd begging some clown to shoot, as if they are playing Coppin State in November*

This team has no potential to do what exactly.

Thompson came down to us and Utah. Washington came down to us and ORU. I'm not sure who else was interested in taking Blair as a transfer. Ahmed was nothing more than a shot in the dark and I still don't understand why we took him.

If OU gets rid of some players, what will this do to OU's graduation rate? I'm all for cutting some players because OU has bottom of the big 12 talent.

I think OU is going to have some issues with graduation rates no matter what. If they don't then the talk about the rules is a joke. Early, maze, pattillo, Warren TNT, tiny, Allen, Blake, Willis, neysmith and the pf that came in with Allen all did not graduate. Potential graduates are crocker, wright, griffin, longer, Neal, god bold, Carter, two judo points and who else?

Not me. I'm not a proponent of cutting anyone loose, not even Hardrick. If they transfer that fine, but i'm not for cutting kids scholarships.

If a kids on an academic scholarship and doesnt maintain a certain GPA, they lose it. So why shouldnt an athlete that isnt good enough to contribute lose theirs? Its ridiculous. 2-3 guys should be gone after this year. They can get a scholarship to a D2 school, or pay their own way like everyone else.

I'm pretty sure players who leave in good academic standing do not count against you. I don't know the exact rule, and I have no clue about the situations surrounding each of these guys (although I could guess confidently about a few...), but I do know you aren't going to be hurt too bad if these guys were showing up to class and doing what they were supposed to academically. The NCAA would be crazy to institute a rule punishing teams for guys who were too good to stay in college for four years. Every top team would eventually be losing scholarships.

You are assuming logic and reason have anything to do with what the NCAA decides to do.

True, but generally the illogical decisions the NCAA makes punish the little guy, not the elite. A rule like that would hurt UNC, UK, Duke, etc. They don't want that.

It would be pretty sorry to punish a program because a guy like Blake left early for the NBA. But then again, you never know with the NCAA.....

My understanding, which came from a person that worked for the athletic department, is that if they maintain the minimum GPA for every semester they are enrolled, then they DO NOT hurt our Grad Rates. However, when TMG left mid semester last year and didn't finish that hurt. When Keith Clark was ineligible and left that hurt. Blake, Tiny, Willie, Ray Willis all leaving for other reason that were in good academic standing did not hurt our grad rates

I truly believe the rule is a transfer counts as not graduating and that guys that leave early count against the University. I hope I am mistakent but I don't think I am.

Think the rules have been ammended over the years so that all the athlete has to do is "leave in good standing."

This might sound rediculous to people here but my confidence in Capel is falling to an all time low. The team looks so poorly coached it's unwatchable. I remember teams Kelvin and later in Billy's years that weren't all that talented, but those teams played hard and were well coached for the most part. This team looks so poorly coached. I think if we want to go the right direction it won't be with Jeff Capel. He's just not that defined as a coach.
