Source just confirmed that Oklahoma freshman Tommy Mason-Griffin is history with the Sooners. Expected to sign with agent. Terrible decision for Mason-Griffin to leave early for the NBA. Not even close to ready. And to clarify, Mason-Griffin will amost certainly be playing overseas somewhere next season.

I said NBADL or overseas, wish I was wrong. Some guys just do not like school.

Maybe he'll get picked up by the Tulsa 66ers next year and all of our Tulsa Sooners can support him.

In the end if TMG doesnt even want to attempt to pretend to try to fulfill the student part of student/athlete what is there left to discuss ?

Good luck.

That's probably it- which is pretty bad if he's really that intellectually lazy. maybe he'll be on austin johnson's team in switzerland. youd think the guy would rather play where he gets more exposure to nba scouts and coaches.

This is what you get with a one and done NBA rule. Things need to change fast because it's killing college basketball.

what was the agent thinking? surely he doesn't think that he can make a ton of money off of TMG?

Good point. These young guys are so academically challenged, that the agents are probably signing them to deals that carry very little risk for the agents.

I use to talk to a local kid here in OKC who was pretty highly recruited a few yrs ago out of HS. He had signed with an agent who was trying to get him some looks overseas. The kid was 7-0, and was recruited by alot of big schools , but he couldn't qualify. He tried several smaller schools and flunked out repeatedly. It became painfully obvious that academics did not become him.

The agent that he signed with offered nothing up front, and the deal basically called for the kid to owe the agent a large chunk of money if he got picked up overseas. He understood very little about his situation, and the most that the agent was losing was a lil time calling ball clubs to inquire about his guys chances.

Today the kid is living in NW OKC with his mother, and last I heard he was back to surviving off of drug sales in the streets. Alot of talent wasted because of a lack of good advisors, common sense, and any semblance of an education....... Hope TMG doesn't have a similar story in 5 yrs.

This is just too freaking unbelievable to comprehend how stupid of a decision TMG is about to make.
