Top 25 programs of the 21st Century

I wonder how many people would guess the correct team before clicking on the link?

Interesting read...although it weighs everything based on NCAA tourney success. Practically all of our points are due to prob 3 seasons. I bet if you looked at it by winning %, we slide.

Nevertheless, OU has been a top15 - 20 program since I started following Sooner b-ball (1985). For the past 30 years OU has been one of the most consistent b-ball programs....that's what has made the last 3 to 4 seasons so difficult for me. We've been to 2 Final Fours over the past 25 years...and have been a 1-4 seed 12 times since 1985 (28 seasons). Outside a handful of teams, no one else can say that.

I would venture to say that over the past 25 years...we have had one of the most successful sports programs in country (I'm just referring to football and men's basketball in my thought). With all the aforementioned b-ball success plus the football program playing in what, 6 NC games since 1985?? (winning 2). I don't have enough time on my hands to do the research...but we've got to be in the top 5 at least.

And some fans still b!tch & moan :-)

I think we all have been a little spoiled!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thoughts!?

When you factor in the success of men's and women's gymnastics, softball, women's basketball and wrestling, you can really solidify that top five position.

That is what I was going to say. Baseball has had some success too. OU was in the finals of the college world series a few years ago and I think won it about 19 years ago.

Yes, in 1995. Mark Redman was our "ace" pitcher and was a bada$$. We beat G-Tech, who had Varitek and Nomar Garciapara on their team.

Pretty sure that was 1994, Chip Glass was MOP. In 95 we went back to Omaha but went 0-2 including a 9th inning walk off HR by JD Drew to beat Mark Redman 2-1, if memory serves.

Sadly, we are now awful in wrestling.

I won't pretend to follow it closely (not easy from 1000+ miles away), but I do wish we were getting it done in that sport, too.

I did a little research and broke down the Bedlam Series. Found some interesting numbers I'm sure have been posted here before but here goes:

Overall, OU leads 129-95

Prior to Iba
1908-1934, OU 43-9

Iba Era
1934-1965, Ok State 50-25

Prior to Big 12
1965-1996, OU 42-18

Big 12 Era
1996-Present, OU 19-18

Series prior to and after Iba
OU, 104-45

Series since Iba arrived in Stillwater in 1934
Tied, 86-86

Series since Iba retired
OU, 61-36

Conclusions
1. Hank Iba was a helluva coach
2. Don't understand why anyone would think they have a better basketball program than us.

Let me start off by saying, I've had a drink [okay two], but the link provided just goes to what makes me primarily an OU basketball fan as opposed to a football fan that pops up now and then when the hoops team is good. My rant: OU IS A DAMN GOOD BASKETBALL SCHOOL! IN FACT, OU IS A DAMN GOOD SCHOOL ANYTHING IT CHOOSES TO BE GOOD IN!!! We usually get the best from Oklahoma, now the staff needs to start working down in Texas. OU basketball is not coach specific [i.e. Sutton and Iba and ......], it is what it is, the best PROGRAM to never win a title. There are a few schools that genuinely care about college hoops, Kentucky, UNC, Duke, Kansas, Indiana...but Michigan upended Michigan State relatively easily once they decided to care again. IDK, I think we are doing things the right way in today's game, talented guard play that can get hot along with post players that can turn **** to shinola, looking forward to another run.

It's either us or Illinois. I'm not sure any other school has much of an argument.
