Yes, with an intangible or two thrown in, perhaps (though that can be a slippery slope). If a great player is surrounded by lousy talent, but he does everything he can do to help his team win and it shows in the numbers (but not in the win column), how is he not all-conference-worthy?
That would make Pierre Jackson over McGruder. Except Pierre has been unable to get Baylor going while McGruder has his team tied for first with a new coach

It's also dependent on how a team runs their offense, etc. If Withey played for OU, I can guarantee he would have more than two games in conference where he had double digit shot attempts...which is what has happened to Withey (one of those was a double OT game as well). He has taken 16 shots in the last four games.
Withey/McLemore/one of the OSU players are the only locks. I think Osby is fourth in the pecking order.

Smart is a lock. He may be the conference POY, depending on these last 2 games. Every coach and media member in the Big 12 heap praise on him every chance they get.

I think the last 2 positions will be filled by either Osby, McGruder or Brown. I think Brown is a little behind the other 2 right now.

As fine a freshman year as he's had, the fact that he's considered a lock for the all-conference team but Osby isn't is, in part at least, due to hype.
That presumes that Jackson's responsible for Baylor's underwhelming results and that McGruder is the reason KSU hasn't missed a beat. Both may be true, but by the same token, neither may be.
It's not as though Jackson achieved his success by being a me-first guy -- he leads the conference in assists, too. What more can he do? And if we're talking about intangibles and leadership, that's just one more argument in favor of Osby, who is undeniably his team's leader.
I agree that some overreacted -- it's definitely not an anti-OU/pro-oswho-KU story at all.
But it's a lazy-ass effort on Tramel's part. He offers no convincing evidence for why his four all-conference locks are locks.
- Smart -- intangibles (which Osby also has in spades--he's the heart and soul of this Sooner squad)
- McGruder -- 15.9 points per game (Osby's outscoring him at 17.2 ppg)
- McLemore -- leads KU with 17.1 ppg in conference (see above)
- Withey -- 14.2 points and 8.9 rebounds per game (Osby's averaging the aforementioned 17.2 ppg and 7.1 rebounds)
So why are we to meekly accept that those players are locks to be selected over Osby?
Tramel should challenge the conventional wisdom rather than merely parroting it.
