I know retiring isn't an easy decision, but it seems like such a jerkish move to wait till the first day of practice to do this. Dude has had well over five months since their season ended to think it over. The cynic might suggest he timed it this way to make sure his son gets the job. But whatever his motive, it sucks for any players who didn't know this was a real possibility. They had to rebuild most of their roster, and you have to think at least some of those players would have made a different decision if they knew he wasn't going to be around.
