Transfer woes: Men's basketball junior M'Baye to get used to warmups>>>OUD

Good read. Props to RJ Young (college writer for the OUDaily). The guy has been killing it with OU hoops coverage. Between Sam Duren, RJ, Emig, Houck, Baldwin, and Eddie Rado - we are getting some decent hoops coverage thus far imo for a program that has been struggling.

You're right, the reporters deserve some props for doing a great job. Sittler is another name who should be added to that list.

Am I the only one who has noticed a dramatic increase in the number of positive articles, editorials and blogs about our basketball program since Kruger came? IMO, LK is the reason for the turnaround in OU's press coverage He goes out of his way to embrace reporters with his approachable personality and style. He uses that same approach with fans, which is why he has been successful in creating an attitude and an atmosphere we haven't seen since the 2009 season.

OU may still be a year or two away from a return to post season play and to where we were a couple of years ago. But, I, for one, am excited by where this program is headed. So much so, I'm more than willing to be patient and enjoy the ride while it plays out.

I agree Ada, but there were a lot of good and upbeat articles written about Capel the first year or two. It's easy to be open about a program when there is a clean slate and expectations are low. Much more difficult to be open with the media when you are having consecutive losing seasons.

True that, campbest. The real test, of course, is will the positive press continue if OU has another losing season this year?

I have a feeling Kruger will get a pass his first season. After that, the gloves will be off. But my money is on LK to pull a few surprises out of his hat, with an improvement in our record this season, that will only get better in the years to come. How much better? Well, that's something I haven't figured out yet. ;)

Not trying to be rude or anything but has anyone noticed the name of this article on the front page in the top headlines section? It has a much different take on the article

LK will definitely be given a pass. I will treat LK's progress much as I do a college player, by midway through and toward the end of the sophomore season you should be able what type of impact they're going to have.

I'm going to try and not get upset with LK even if we do struggle, b/c he isn't going anywhere. There is just about nothing LK can do (or not do) that will cost him his job at OU in the next 5 years or so. Not in the position we're in, with the money we've spent. He is going to be here for awhile. Good or bad. Just something to keep in mind.

I can tell you with relative certainty that the reason the stories stopped with Capel was because he did not want to have anything to do with the media, and generally shirked any coaching responsibility that did not have to do with directly working with the team. When asked for his cellphone number (something commonplace when dealing with the media) he told a major TW sports writer that he might give them his email address.

But this thread is about positive coverage, and I have been impressed with it so far. It's good to see Kruger saying and doing all the right things publicly before the season!

Realistic fans expect about a .500 season. Honestly about all Kruger can do is exceed expectations. I think he will do that this season. I think OU will be a middle of the pack Big XII team. Say 5th to 8th.
