During tonight's 1am ET SportsCenter, while showing OU-uo highlights, he said, "Oklahoma. Oregon. These teams -- neither has much of a basketball pedigree, looking to change that."

Man, did that get my back up. Such ignorance. The guy clearly hasn't done any homework whatsoever.

In case you'd like to help me inform him just how wrong he is, you can find him on Twitter: @mbretosESPN

JMO...but let's not.

Getting frothy at the mouth only furthers either his point or his agenda.

No worries. I've filled him in.

I don't think he has an agenda. I just think he's a typical glib but clueless ESPN commentator. It's a huge night for us, and he spewing misinformation that diminishes our status. No way I was keeping quiet about it.

OU and uo are not at a remotely similar level in college hoops, and it denigrates us to suggest otherwise.

You are right! Oregon has a national title! Ou doesn't. So he was right. Oregon's came in 1939, we haven't ever won one. OU's pedigree is MAYBE top 20 all time. MAYBE!

I'd say top 20 is a damn good basketball pedigree.

Fight the good fight, Sky!

Which tourney was better in '39? OU and UO are not even close. OU's pedigree is definitely top 20 all-time. Several major surveys of such (ESPN, SI) have shown that.

I'm not sure what are you talking about -- I'm right? He's right?

Oregon won that first NCAA tourney (when the NIT was king) and hasn't been to a Final Four since. They've only been to the NCAA tourney 14 times in those 75+ years. They're not in our class as far as basketball tradition goes.

It's not even close. I am pretty upset that we'd get lumped in with Oregon. We're a much much more accomplished program. If you were to pick this game by history it wouldn't have been close.

Here's his ridiculous response:

I judge with an iron fist on this one.. Got to win at least 1 National Title.

So I'm sure he thought Syracuse didn't have much basketball pedigree before 2003...

I laid in to the Oklahoman.

They'll send as many as they can to Houston to provide their in depth coverage and get to go to the Final 4.

Yet they don't even post anything from the first time we beat Nova, because it was still football season and it wasn't a priority

So I'm sure he thought Syracuse didn't have much basketball pedigree before 2003...

Or Duke before 1991.

Max Bretos just didn't do his homework. I'm sure he now knows that OU has won more NCAA Tournament basketball games (41) than any college who has not won a National Championship. Plus, three Final Four appearances since the start of a 64 team tournament should get on any professional journalist's radar.

I have only two comments:

1) There's a reason I never watch Sports Center.

2) Who is Max Bretos and who cares what he says?

Just my opinion, but I think some of us are way too sensitive to what some talking-head on radio/tv/internet says about anything. Many of these THs (talking-heads) get paid to be controversial. They are actually happy when viewers react to what they are saying.

Personally, based on viewing experience, I have very low expectations that the THs will get things right. (Is that even their job?) For the most part, I don't care what the THs are saying. They are just putting out their opinions; not much different that you and I putting our opinions on this message board. Now the THs do get paid to talk and opine, but many are overpaid, but that is just my opinion.

In any event, the vast majority of the national sports media is shining a very positive bright light on the Sooners right now, as they should.

I actually include the 1939 final four in our pedigree. I'm proud that we were one of the first final four teams. Besides, we all know that the only ESPN guy with any sense is Van Pelt.

meh. we know we're better than that - but he has a point.

I agree for the most part. I usually don't pay attention to the THs. I don't even watch them, generally -- especially the ones who traffic in controversial remarks. I haven't watched College Gameday, for example -- hoops or football -- in years.

But this was a postgame highlights segment and Bretos was providing the play-by-play for it. He wasn't making a statement for the sake of riling anyone up or creating controversy; it was clear he just didn't know what he was talking about.

First off we win 2 more games and it won't matter. And 2nd there is a reason I turn down sound and listen to the OU broadcast when OU is playing. I can't stand listening to talking heads on ESPN or any other network. I rarely even watch Sportscenter and if I do I turn down the sound till OU highlights are on.
