Tyler Neal

Sorry, I plead guilty. I don't know if the kid would play meaningful minutes next season, I'm just using his lack of multiple major offers to shade my opinion. Please excuse me but I'll stick with my attitude that in general most 1st year players will be way better their 5th year and the program would be stronger with a few 5yr players cycling thru.

I agree but capel doesnt have 5 years to wait on these guys to come along...he has a few years at best to turn this bad situation around so we need impact immediate guys...I think capel is going after this kid because he wants a replacement for cade davis...I could be wrong though..

I didn't mean to sound like I was attacking you.....I was referring to board posters in general....some know what they are talking about but the vast majority do not.

You are correct in thinking tht 5th year guys should contribute more...but, unfortunately, in this day and age there really are not a lot of 5th year basketball players. They just dont redshirt many like they do in football. It is harder to simply due to numbers, attrition and the shorter amount of time guys have to spend in school before declaring for the draft.

OU hung in there with Hardrick through three years of high school and a severe injury. Why would they redshirt him this season and then cut him loose before he has a chance to prove anything? That is not going to happen. Capel's job is not on the line either, at least not now.

He played one minute against A&M. He also play a minute or so one other time. He did not redshirt. He just apparently wasn't ready to contribute outside of practice.

As poor as that position has played, he should have played. He's not in the future longterm.

Jeff still needs to add a couple of impact players. He doesn't have 5yrs to wait but if there are 12 or 13 kids on scholarship next season, that should mean they can afford to redshirt someone.

Not completely. If we have 12 guys on schollie but still have willis, gallon, and hardick those are three guys that wont get alot of playing time so we dont want them to red shirt...that leaves 9 guys and we need around 9 guys available to play

Yes, if that is the case but I would still play Gallon, he might even start ;)

My opinion on Hardrick is that he didn't redshirt because it was a given he wouldn't be here. He had a terrible preseason and didn't practice well. To redshirt a kid and then have him transfer would be in essence wasting 2 years. Problem was there weren't enough game situations to get him in the game and who knows what type of other issues he had.

I talked to a PCO parent who basically told me the kid would never see minutes at OU. This was before the season and this parent didn't dislike Hardrick. He was just giving his honest opinion. Not sure if Hardrick could play on OCU's level.

My problem with Neal is his skillset is not high on the needs list for OU. We have spot up shooters. We need guys who can score in the paint whether it be back to the basket, or just a high level finisher like Acy and Pilgrim.

From what I've seen on his highlight videos from his Jr. season he has that ability to score that way or step out and hit some jumpers. Grace can probably give us a better answer here as he as seen him play live this year and I believe he knows the coach there.

I think he scores in the paint very well at the HS level but it will take him a bit on the High Major level to adjust to the size and speed of the big men. I don't think he is an instant impact guy but someone who could be an important piece down the road and a high character guy. I also think he has the body type and work ethic that could surprise you with a high level strength and conditioning program.

I saw Hardrick play in HS as well and I would take Tyler Neal every day of the week. It would have been interesting if OU had backed off what type of school would have recruited Hardrick. I don't think he would have gotten mid-major offers.

I agree with everything you said. I think maybe he should get an offer, but only if we've signed A PF, a C, and a Combo guard in conjunction.

Yeah, I don't really know what OU's needs are in this class but if he's the 5th recruit I would be pretty happy with that.
