Updated Recruiting List

Thanks Norm for all the research you do to keep us informed. It is really appreciated.

There are some really nice players in that group along with some who have real poential growth possibilities.

Hope we can get several of them.

Looks like Ariana Freeman committed to West Virgina, she could be a good one.

I saw a post by A Freeman. She said she wasn't committed to anyone. McCabe committed to Belmont. The last cut list for Turner did not include OU.

There is a story in The Oklahoman today about Taylor Cooper from ORU trying to get her release to transfer. The school has denied her transfer and her appeal is being heard this morning. She is a 6 foot forward who played at Bethel and Shawnee. She is a true freshman who started all 31 games this year and averaged 10.4 points and 5.3 rebounds a game. Does anyone know anything about this situation or think Coale would try to get her if she is released?

In an offficial university publication, they have a split infinitive and haven't corrected it? Do they even realize that is considered negative?

Even if they were to grant the release, would she be eligible immediately? Doesn't she have to sit out for a year? The situatiion becomes rather confusing on who sits out and who doesn't and for what reason. Shelby Pendley in softball didn't even have to sit out a week.

She would have to sit out a year unless the she appealed to the NCAA saying there were extenuating circumstances leading to the transfer.

None of the OSU players who transferred at the end of last year had to sit out since they made the case to the NCAA their transfer was due to the loss of their two coaches.

From the newsok article (which is an interesting read):
“The university isn't what I thought it would be, school-wise and athletics-wise,” Cooper said. “I just don't think it's in my best interest to stay here. That's why I made my decision to leave.”

In its official student-athlete handbook, Oral Roberts details a transfer release policy, which states, “The position of the Oral Roberts University Athletic Department is to not grant student-athletes a release regarding a transfer to another institution. General releases will not be granted. Each release request will be reviewed on a case-by-case and institution-by-institution basis to determine if extenuating circumstances warrant a release.”

Cooper said she was confused when her release request was denied because two other women's basketball players — redshirt freshman forward Emma Gade and sophomore guard Elisabeth Daniels — were recently granted releases. Daniels has already signed with Oklahoma Baptist, an NAIA school in Shawnee.

“They said it wasn't best for the university or for the women's basketball team,” Cooper said when asked if she was given a reason for her denial. “That's all they said. They didn't go into detail about it.”

Isn't there also a conference thing?

Is softball different? How did we get Shelby Pendley without sitting out at all?

I think the rule is that if you transfer from one Big XII team top another you will lose an extra year of eligablity.

I believe this is correct, unless there has been an update. I don't keep up to date on most rules like that. But, if i remember, transferring from a Big 12 team to another means you must sit out a year + lose another year of eligibility. Example: If a freshman transferred from TTU to ISU at the end of the 12-13 season, she would sit out the 13-14 season and come back as a Jr the 14-15 season. Basically, a redshirt season can't be used.

As I said, I am not sure if this is still applicable or not.

Found on internet:

Pendley finished the fall semester at the UA before returning home. Candrea released her from her scholarship; she cannot transfer to a Pac-12 school.

Pendley is eligible to play this spring anywhere else and said she wants to.

If you transfer within the conference, you have to sit out two years. I don't know about basketball, but in the non revenue sports, the school can agree to waive both the school and conference years. Thus, at least in the non revenue sports, you can play for OSU in one year and play for OU or another Big 12 team the next, provided the original school cooperates.

My niece played golf for OSU as a freshman and then transferred to OU and played golf for OU her sophomore and junior years. She never had to sit out because OSU gave her a double release.
