Rodriquez has another magnificent game at the point. 12 points 10 assists ZERO TURNOVERS. In fact VCU had only 5 TURNOVERS IN THE WHOLE GAME! Talk about peaking at the right time.

Final score was 94-76.

How about VCU and Butler in the Final Four? I can see it happening.

VCU has to be the Cinderella team this season and their coach looks like is a player and not a coach. :D

At this point it wouldn't be the worst of ideas. Would be funny but hell if he's the best candidate. He has experience at both Clemson and UF as an assistant.

Even though he's only 33, he's been coaching since '99. He was an assistant for 10 years (including Clemson and Florida). He is 50-20 (23-13 CAA) in two years, including a CBI championship last year and a Sweet Sixteen this year. He's not the best candidate, but his resume is, arguably, better than Capel's when he was hired.

Because he has experience at schools like UF and Clemson I think he would be better prepared to handle a bigger program then Capel was when he came to OU, but of course that's all hindsight at this point.

Highly doubtful he's at VCU next year, NC State supposedly is the odds on favorite to get him as their coach next year. But there are also openings at Ga Tech and possibly Tennessee so (and I imagine he has some pretty good ties recruiting in SEC country).

Those three schools are a better fit, geographically. I think Smart and the Richmond coach fill two of the those three positions.

supposedly a lot of people have Mooney already written in for the Ga Tech job.

Smart has coached on the east coast, but he's not from there.

He grew up in Wisconsin and played his college ball in Ohio.

Maybe he'll be a replacement for Buzz at Marquette?

Good point. Then Capel can go back to VCU.

It is very hard to do it two weekends in a row. I suspect their little fairy tale will end in the next game aganst FSU. I realize FSU is not that strong but I think they will win.

On another note, how about KU set up to make the final four having faced a 16 seed, 9 seed, 12 seed, then a 10 or 11 seed. KU got a break like this years ago when they had a fairly average team (by KU standards). I think they made it to a Great 8 before losing mostly due to upsets.

And neither was Bob Stoops when he was hired.

Completely different situations.

OU football, even when down, is still a top 5 program. OU basketball, even when up, is not. Much easier to turn around a power program.

Second, I think it's easier to hire young football coaches b/c their assistants have a lot more to do with the games then do basketball assistants. Bob Stoops doesn't call offensive plays. Heck, Bob Stoops doesn't call defensive plays.

Not to mention Bob is a rare example. Yes, it can happen with another young coach, but few are going to come in and catch lightening in a bottle like Bob did.
