Warren out? for year?

WW will be the starting 2 guard at OU next season

Depends largely on whether or not he will be academically qualified to return. I can't blame him though because if I were the preseason national player of the year by two major publications and by Gottleib and Frascilla then I wouldn't have been hitting the books hard last semester either...

Very true. That seems like less than a 50/50 proposition, at best.

When you are a big time ballplayer on campus it isn't that easy. Now with the world of Facebook and Twitter and young kids not caring what they put out there for anyone to see, you see it all!

You do recognize that those players have control over what they put on Facebook and twitter?

Which way? He is eligible now. He seems like a smart guy. (He apparently psychology controls coach Capel and everything that happens in the program - you have to be smart to undermine authority and counteract it at all cost).

It seems to me he is barely into the semester. Maybe one set of exams. That is easy to change if you want to.

He averaged 16 points a game with some injuries. If that is the biggest bust in college basketball this year, I am not sure what a guy like Orlondo Allen or Kyle Hardrick are on OU's team alone.

If he shoots the three like he did last year, he probably averages over 20 a game. I don't see you calling Pledger a bust for a shooting slump - remember he was the best shooter Capel had ever seen (and most agreed he could shoot).

Willie Warren along with everyone else deserves credit for this season but Capel is the boss. It amazes me how many OU basketball fans want to blame children and put zero blame on the guy that is paid to make sure OU has a good basketball team.

At least act like respectable football fans and blame an assistant coach.

Some of the comparisons you make are ridiculous. Are you honestly comparing the expectations that were placed on WW in the preseason to Orlando, Hardrick, and Pledger? Mind boggling. The fact is, and I state again, he was picked by at least 1 major media source as the NATIONAL player of the year. Not the conference player of the year, NATIONAL. Well national players of the year don't average 16.3 ppg while shooting 44% from the field and 31 % from three. Also national players of the year don't typically have what amounts to a 1 to 1 assist to turnover ratio. So let me spell this out again: for the expectations Willie had in the preseason he is one of the biggest busts in college basketball this year. And if you can't see that you need to take off the Willie colored glasses.

And again, I'm not blaming "everything" on Willie. But the fact is his failure to live up to expectations is a big part of how our season turned out. If he played like a national player of the year I doubt we'd have had a sub .500 season. I will agree there is plenty of blame to go around, but I don't understand why we have a few posters on here that are hyper-sensitive to any criticism of WW particularly when people present factual evidence (not anecdotal) for why his season has been a massive disappointment.

I'll be surprised if WW is back in college next year. I think he'll go pro.
I hope he gets it together because he has NBA starter potential. It will be a shame if 10 years from now he's remembered most for tea bagging X Henry in an AAU game. He has too much game for that. Needs to get his mind right.

His explosive jumping ability has been absent this season along with his midrange game. I don't think that he's had one single dunk this season. If he does come back next year, hopefully he can get back some of those hops that we witnessed against ISU last season. Either way, I hate to see the team in disarray. This was my first year to buy tickets and my first year to witness a game in LNC (we're actually 4-0 when we've attended: Mizzou, Arkansas, Texas, & N. Colorado with Baylor still remaining) . I plan on doing the same next year b/c I am a fan of OU basketball regardless.

If he plays slightly better, he is conference player of the year or in the running. Once you are conference player of the year in the Big XII, Big East, Big Ten, etc. you are in the discussion for National Player of the year. He has not been this huge let down. 16 a game is good production.

If he makes 1 more three pointer a game and doesn't display his emotions so much he would be averaging about 22-25 a game. The reason is the refs will give him more calls and he will pick the rest up on free throws. He gets more calls because the ref like him better and because his defenders are in a slightly worse spot due to his better three point shooting. He is not having this terrible year that you and some others seem to think he is having.

If you don't think not sniffing the court like Orlondo Allen has this season with expectations of potential starter in the off season is a bigger let down than being the 10th highest scorer in the league compared to All Conference and/or All American honors, your nuts. Willie isn't that far off. Orlondo is way, way, way off.

Hmmm.... so what you're saying is that he was one more 3-pointer per game away from putting up the kind of numbers that James Anderson is putting up right now?

Just from watching both play this year, I don't get that feeling.

Can I see the math on that, please?

I told you how. One three pointer is 19 a game. If he is shooting above 40% from 3, which he would be if he made one more per game, his defenders are more suceptable to the drive and he gets more fouls. You think it is a huge stretch to say if WW was a good little soldier like Hollis Price he would not be on the line 3-5 more times a game?

i get what you are saying, but I don't get the math.:ez-laugh:

Yes. One three pointer a game is 19 and puts his percentage well above 40%. That totally changes how people have to defend him and then he abuses them on the drive.

how many more shots a game is he going to have to take though to get one more a game:ez-laugh:

1. I don't get the feeling WW is a "well above 40%" three point shooter, unless he is the 3rd or 4th option on offense. He isn't. He's the first.

2. One more three pointer a game doesn't change how he is defensed. Even though he hasn't been shooting it well, coaches have still been guarding him just like he had been. I've seen no difference.

3. Just what we need, WW taking more shots.
