We play Washington on Nov. 14th. I know it's early but, with not much else to talk about, I thought I would take a look at them to see if we can get an idea of what to expect.

This is their coaching staff: http://www.gohuskies.com/SportSelect.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=30200&SPID=126629&SPSID=777714&DB_OEM_ID=30200. This staff is new as Neighbors was hired after McGuff was hired at Ohio St.

Last year they went 20-14 overall and 10-8 in the Pac 12.

This is their returning roster: http://www.gohuskies.com/SportSelect.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=30200&SPID=126629&SPSID=749598&DB_OEM_ID=30200

This shows their stats from last year: http://www.gohuskies.com/ViewContent.dbml?&DB_OEM_ID=30200&CONTENT_ID=832462. Plum, Davis, and Walton were their scoring leaders last year and all return. Plum was just a freshman last year and averaged 21 points per game followed closely by Davis at 19 PPG. Their rebounding leader was Williams at 10.4 RPG.

They have a commitment from Strother in 2015: Recruiting 2015- http://espn.go.com/high-school/girls-basketball/recruiting/school/_/id/264/class/2015 They also have a commitment from Slocum (an excellent player) for 2016: http://espn.go.com/high-school/girls-basketball/recruiting/player/_/id/191032/destiny-slocum

If Neighbors continues to recruit like this, teams in the Pac 12 won't look forward to playing them in the next few years.

I do think OU will be favored but I also expect Washington to give us a good game.

Teams that shoot 39% from the field rarely make the Sweet Sixteen.

I have no idea about what to expect from our team this year. I only hope that the interior problem of last year's team doesnt recur. If it doesnt, and I dont thinkj it will, we should be a pretty good team by tournament time at least.

Losing Ellenberg's 19 PPG is going to hurt and Morgan was no slouch either. I don't believe we have 2 players who can score as much as those two did. We will have to get more scoring out of 3 or 4 players to make up for those two.

Offense aside for a moment, we really need to be better on defense and rebounding. Those are the areas I'm most concerned about.

Yes. Defense and rebounding are key - but they are every year.Sherri's teams usually provide adequate offense (mostly) but leave me wanting on the defensive end and in rebounding. KayKay absolutely has to come through this year.

I thought it was the "team defense" that was inadequate last year. One on one Nicole G was pretty good, and also at making driving players alter their shots. But we weren't consistant with help defense inside, had too many easy path to the basket from outside, and pi** poor rebounding from everyone on the team (Nicole Griffin's biggest weak spot), and of course KK couldn't rebound at all from the bench with foul trouble.
My keys are
1) maddie being healthy will immensely help team play on offense and defense, if she IS healthy and not too rusty.
2) Nicole K has to improve shooting, consistency overall, and provide leadership
3) Peyton be the team player she looked like in scrimmages last year.
4) improvement by Sharane, Gioya, derica, T'ona or SOME of them.
5) Point guard play, Gabbi? T'ona? team? with maddie helping?
6) Somebody provide a threat inside on offense, and a deterrent on defense.
We could use all of those with team rebounding and be pretty good, or miss on one or two and be mediocre.

Biggest loss for the Huskies from last year is their pg Wetmore. She made everyone else a better player. She was the only regular player to average more assists than turnovers(144/70). I would expect Plum to try and fill the void this year.
Washington was often shorthanded in players available as all 5 of their starters averaged from 27.4 mpg to 37.6 mpg. 3 of those starters averaged over 36.3 mpg.
Expect Washington to run the ball, even with a short roster, it was their best style of play. The Huskies need to get big minutes from Collier and Osahor, two bigs.
Its amazing the Collier is even playing as she missed her senior year in HS with Leukemia and I believe her freshman year at UW with an knee injury. I saw Collier play club ball and I loved her game. She always followed up every shot she took for a rebound. Never shot and posed for the cameras. Osahor was on the St Marys of Arizona HS team that went undefeated a few years ago and was mythical HS champions. Big girl in size, Not quick, She likes to shoot three pointers from a straight line at the top of the key and her three point shot is often a shot with no arc on it, like a line drive. She missed the beginning of last season when I believe she was riding her bike on campus and was hit by a car.
Of the freshman I think the ones who might get time are Ruiz, injured last year and Kingma. Ruiz was a solid player from Northern California and Kingma I remember from her club team, same as Colliers. Kingma has an older sister who played at UW. Kristi Kingma who was a very good player.

Great post! There's nothing like getting info directly from a knowledgeable basketball fan.
