I was very impressed with Woodard. I know, I know the opponent was weak, but his command of the offense and ability to drive was really good. I'm excited to watch him grow this season

Best true point guard since Q. White? Best true point guard that will likely spend four years on campus since.....I can't even come up with a name. SO glad to have a kid like him in the lineup.

And before somebody brings up TMG, it's tough to count him given his short time on campus, and the fact that he played a large role in the "crap" that went on with that team. Talented no doubt, but n/a from this convo, IMO. I'm also going to exclude Lavender. I expect Woodard to be at OU for four years. Tough to compare him to two guys that never saw their third year.

There's an awful lot to be excited about with Woodard. He needs to cut down the turnovers, but it seemed like most of them were the result of overly-aggressive passes. Once he calms down and learns to let the offense come to him I suspect that we won't see so many turnovers from him.

Terrell Everett? He was a pretty fantastic PG.

I didn't get to watch the game, but the 4 turnovers to 4 assists looks a bit like a freshman stat line. That should get better and better as he gets comfortable. It's nice to have so many other capable passing guards. It should allow him to focus on his scoring ability for now without having to be the one guy running the offense.

He reminds me of the kid from Baylor. Strong build kid in CDrew's first few years.

TE never seemed like a true point to me. And he turned it over a TON. Good player though.

During his senior year he averaged 7 assists per game. That made him number 3rd in the nation. He was a pass first point guard and a really good one.

Really? Good in the transition but in the half court More of a dribble at the 3 pt line then drive

Regardless, he was a two-year player. We simply haven't had many 4-year point guards dating back to the start of the Billy Tubbs era. The players I can think of were Bo Overton, Terry Evans and Dion Barnes (who was primarily a backup). Hollis Price started out as a PG, but eventually became an "okay" two-guard :-). Others signed out of high school never made it past one or two years - Mark Wade (think UNLV Final Four), Drew Lavendar and Tommy Mason-Griffin. All the rest were JUCO players.

Let's hope Jordan stays 4 years and develops into a great PG!

Austin Johnson's name probably belongs on there too, but he never should have been our full time point guard. Dude had combo-guard written all over him. Still a shame what injuries did to his career.

Yeah, Austin Johnson had a bad first year, but was really good his last 2 years and he was here for 4 years. Another PG who was only around for 2 years was John Ontjes. He was a "pass first" PG that was solid. Anybody remember Prince Fowler? He only played at OU for a year and ended up following Billy Tubbs to TCU.

Compared to last season, OU is better at the "1" with Jordan Woodard on the roster.

I agree with others. It will be fun to watch Woodard "grow" as he plays four years at OU. It will also be fun to watch all the young guards grow, as we have 5 of them now. All five have untapped potential that can be realized as they gain more experience.

We are heading into a good era of OU basketball.

Yes, Austin Johnson does belong on there. I seemed to have remembered guys from the '80s, but couldn't remember the starting PG of our Elite Eight team four plus seasons ago. :facepalm

I gotta be honest, I had no idea Woodard had this much talent. I'd heard mention of him and his skills on here. I kind of thought he might be a poor man's Quannas. I thought he'd be a savvy distributor that keeps his teammates happy and knock down an occasional 3. But after watching a live game, his quickness and overall athleticism is off the charts. He hit two threes, hit some runners... Got 5 steals? I have no idea why he only had the offers he had. At any rate, I'm happy he's a Sooner!

I think he will be a very good point guard. He still has to learn what he can do against top talent. He won't get that in the exhibition games. Hopefully by the first of the year.

The only negative that stuck out from the stats is that he had 4 assists to 4 turnovers against Washburn. Add in that he only got 4 assists when his team got 104 points, and you have to wonder if he'll be able to get our guys involved against good D.

I think he's the third best player on the team today though...

I think he is probably the best 4 year PG we have had since Terry Evans. We've had some decent PG's over the years but most of them seem like they've been jucos. TE wasn't a true PG but was forced to play it because Lavender wasn't quite getting it done. TE was more of a Point Wing if you will who was a better slasher than anything, but had some "street" PG skills in his ability to pass the ball etc.

Jordan reminds me of a cross between a Quannas White and a Terry Evans. He's not quite the shooter that Evans was but can hit the open shot when he needs to (much like Q. White). He's a very strong kid (unlike Evans who was more quick) and can get to the rim like Q. White and/or Smokey McCovery could. I thin khe's a kid that if you did these "star" ratings a couple of years from now...you would move him to the 4 star level. I love his game!!

I get why you would say AJ had a bad first year due to his stats but he started several games as a freshman and he was playing with Terrell Everett, Michael Neal and David Godbold. Chris Walker was also on that team with two years of Juco experience. That was some significant competition and he worked himself into a starting role. Personally, I always thought AJ was a very good player and would have been a lot better had he not had so many injuries.

Agreed. And wasn't it his freshman year that he got that really bad sprained ankle and it took him a full year (or longer) to recover? Or was that his sophomore season?
