1. Nicole to learn to rebound and generally step up her game(we've got good guards);
2.better rebounding from everybody;
3. Maddie to recover her form;
4. KK to recover her form;
5.Sharane to take the next step up.

That would almost satisfy me(I'm not greedy. All this is very possible.).

I agree with every point and your're right, they are all possible.

1. I think that Griffin will be slightly improved on rebounding, and she will take her shot when she gets it, more of a keep them honest shot than a staple. But, Griffin's primary responsibility will be to keep her hands kind of in the way. For four years, we have had opposing coaches state that it is difficult to shoot over Griffin. With Griner gone, who can? She is primarily there as a disruption.

2. Better rebounding from everyone? There is no Jo. What will be essential is that Kaylon, Portia, Nicole Kornet, or Shaya step into a bit of that role of getting the rebound. Get the ball and get it out quickly. I suspect that Maddie will help with probably around five or six, maybe seven. Vegas seems to find a way to get more than she should. But, unless Kaylon steps up, I don't see anyone getting ten.

3. This team will be as good as Maddie. Vegas may be the scoring leader, but Vegas needs a catalyst. She is better as a catch and shoot shooter. She doesn't create her own shot well. If we have anyone that can create shots, it will be Maddie, Gioya, or maybe Derica. Occasionally, Morgan can do it. But, we need for one of them to step up as a penetrator who can create situations off which our shooters feed. I think that is Maddie. It had better be.

4. Kaylon also needs to grow up a bit. She was a freshman. Supposedly, she is healed. But, she also needs to play under control. She is potentially the best we have at going after the ball inside. She has to be consistent doing it.

5. Sharane has demonstrated a lot of inconsistency, both in performance and in handles. She needs to make it happen without losing control. Vegas has a bit of this problem. Sharane is better at it than Vegas. Sharane is the better driver with Vegas being the better spot shooter. I don't expect to see any change in Vegas. Sharane is still growing. Right now, I don't see her starting over Maddie, Vegas, or Morgan with Kaylon and Nicole inside. I'm still inclined to use her as a sixth man anyway. She seems to disappear sometimes when she starts, something she is less likely to do off the bench. I would rather see her as the first off the bench. Sherri has a tendency to insert someone at about 2:30 when someone starts slow.

Sharane will start, no question. She ended conference play shooting great from BTA, she is our best defender, and she's the toughest player we have. In short, she makes things happen on both ends of the court.

I would like to see more consistency at the point.....better distribution of the ball to whoever is hot at the moment.....

And fewer turnovers! From everyone!:facepalm

I agree with Norm, Sharane starts. She deserves it by her play so far.

If I understand Syb correctly, he thinks Nicole is pretty much maxed out on potential and will be, perhaps, a wee bit better this next year, if we are lucky.

Maddie. It's all about Maddie, as far as I can see. Sherri has to get the 5 best on the floor. That has to include Maddie AND Sharane. One of those two is going to be the 4. I feel almost positive about it.

With Nicole it's all about toughness under the basket. When she plays tough she does well and gets rebounds. She needs to develop an attitude that the paint belongs to her and nobody pushes her around.

I just hope that Maddie returns to form. She can be a weapon.

I agree about Nicole. In the games where she displayed some toughness, she was effective. She just needs that mindset throughout every game.

I think it is likely Kornet will come off the bench this year. She is becoming a good shooter and can really help when someone is winded or is having a cold shooting night.

Kaylon needs experience, and experience and yet more experience. She has had relatively little and will, I think, get much better with lots of time on the floor.

Kaylon is a much more physical player now than when she was in high school. What she needs to work on is, be physical but limit fouls. It will really help the team if she is 100% and comes back in great condition.

Few players, like leopards, change their spots. Every player has a behavioral type that identifies how he/she will most likely play. Sometimes, this is modified by growth, maturity, and confidence. Usually, type reverts to type. This means that what you get this year will likely be the magnification of traits that we have already seen.

It is more likely that Kaylon would become a rebounding terror than Griffin. It is more likely that Griffin would stretch her two or three minute runs into two or three five-minute runs with confidence.

If someone tends to dribble into trouble, resulting in turnovers, do they likely change that? It's better to try to get them to quit dribbling and get to a spot where you want them to have the ball.

We have seen whatever we are going to get. We may not have seen a lot of it since some of the talent has been limited as to time on the floor by injuries or inexperience. But, we have seen it. It is unreasonable to expect someone to be something that they aren't. There are here because Sherri saw value in what they are.

Any post I made would be very similar to this. I generally feel Maddie starts with the obvious seniors which leaves Sharane, KK, and Kornet. Since the season ended my feelings have shifted a little. Kornet really handled her increased duties well. She is definately a ball player. Agree with your points about KK. However, Sherri was glowing after Sharane came out during the last press conference and went all Hoosiers. Paraphrasing. "I learned how to be a leader from whit. I learned how to bang and scrap from Jo. etc"
I do not do it justice but it made me really excited she is just a sophmore. She looked like a senior.

Sherri usually gets a lot from her seniors so I wouldn't be suprised to see good improvement from Griffin and Durrett.

Ellenberg is a lock to start and play major minutes. Hook ditto.

With KK it is a matter of 1) health and 2) offensive needs. She was becoming a monster on the boards at the end of her freshman year. If she is fully recovered she should be Jo-like in 13-14. I don't expect her to be a major offensive force but she should get a lot of putbacks.

Maddie was starting but was injured before the conference season started. Who knows if she would have started once conference play got under way. Sherri usually shrinks he rotation to the more experienced players in conference play. I like what I saw from Maddie and if physically recovered should contribute.

Kellogg may be the freshman who gets the most minutes. Griffin has a hard time putting in more than 24-30 minutes and KK's health is a question. Durrett may be the key to Kelloggs minutes.

It will be hard to keep Campbell off the court. If we need help at the 4 she will probably be the one.

I like Kornet and thought she should have played more last year. Barring an injury to a key player I suspect I will feel the same at the end of the upcoming season.

I also like the incoming freshmen but none are the Courtney or DRob level of player and are likely to look back on 13-14 as a learning season without a lot of playing time, particularly at conference time.

It is common that juco players perform much better their second year. Therefore, I'm going to step out on a limb and say that Portia will give us some good minutes this year.

I agree absolutely and not just because my name is Durrett (no relation).

She certainly showed some flashes at times last year, and I hope she will be a solid contributor this season. We can always use some tough rebounders and good role players.

To me, she seemed so deep into Sherri's dog house last year that I just think she's pretty much a non-factor next year unless Kay-Kay cannot play.

Sherri often wouldn't even put her in when it was mop up time when we were winning or losing. She just wouldn't play here almost period.

We've all seen that happen before and we know what the result is for the player.

Now that you all have set realistic goals, here are the ones that I would say that we NEED to have happen this coming season:

1. Vegas must average 30 ppg. No word on if that will finally cause TV announcers to stop calling her "Ellenburger"

2. Nicole Griffin must attempt her first-ever collegiate three-pointer. I think that because she's taller, she's technically closer to the basket and that should make these shots easier for her.

3. Morgan Hook must never take 3 again. I am looking at the percentages and stats, and this is the only way that she can truly become our point guard. Time to pass, NOT time to take a 3. And of course, it is NEVER time to turn over the ball.

4. Legally change Sharane's first name to "Star Spencer Sharane"...Campbell. Why in the hell did she only start 2 games last year with all the injuries we had. I think she's better than that, and what better way to get your name on the starting spot list than to be "Star Spencer Sharane" just to make every home and away PA dude say that before the game.

5. Make scholarships tied to injuries. Every injured player must immediately switch their major to pre-med in order to retain their athletic scholarships. Learning about being a doctor will surely heal the hell outta our injured reserve.

6. Kay Kay Williams must average a quadruple double. 10 rebounds, 10 more rebounds, 10 additional rebounds and finally 10 extra rebounds each game.

With all of the above, the Big 12 championship is a given. The national championship is now out of reach, and baby baj may finally utter "Boomer Sooner" by the end of the season.

Come on, Sooners. I live in Tulsa. I can't have my toddler utter anything to do with orange's power :mad:
