We had several starters go down with knee injuries and Chelsi was thrown into the fire early. In several games she put the team on her back and would charge the basket each time down the court and get fouled and maybe score. A disastrous year.

2002-2003 We lost Caton, Erin, and (I believe) Stephanie Simon. We did make the NCAA tournament that year.

That's correct, plus there was another freshman center (whose name is slipping my mind) who was out with a knee injury for that season.

Casey Walker, who was actually injured in July 2002 (before starting her freshman year) while participating in the BCI Nationals.

True story: When I was in basketball band it was a tuba's birthday during the Big 12 tournament, so I made him an "I LOVE YOU CHESI" sign, which he brought to every game, even when she was injured and standing on the sideline during pregame warmups.
He'd hold it up and get her attention, and shout "I LOVE YOU CHESI!" and she'd (perhaps a bit embarrassed) smile and wave at him.
It made his night every time
