Who do you think could do the best defensive job on Niang?

I was sitting here thinking who could do the best job defensively against him and Odomes came to mind. Spangler is too slow and Buddy is too short. But Odomes seems like he could match up both size wise and quickness.

Who do you guys think?

Buddy. I thought he did a good job of it last year in that last game we played them.

I just haven't seen enough of Odomes to form an opinion of how good of a man-to-man defender he is.... especially on the best player on the other team. He does have the size and quickness.

I do think Christian James is a good defender. He's physical and quick enough, but probably not tall enough.

Since more than one player will have a shot at it, I bet Buford gets a turn for a few minutes.

Buddy is the best choice. Niang is probably too crafty for the freshmen.

Buddy. Niang won't be able to take him off the dribble so they'll have to post him up. Then we could help with Lattin or Spangler or just make Niang beat us with his back to the basket.

While Odomes and James are good one on one defenders they have still to flow properly in the team defense and that is one of the reasons we lose leads when we start using the reserves.

The Sooners starting five play the best help defense I have seen. But it takes a lot of energy and when the legs begin to lose their edge and new players are in the game the defense begins to break down.

I think defense is the main reason James and Odomes are not getting a lot of minutes in the tighter games. Offense too as they still have to adjust to the Sonners offensive scheme. But like on defense their individual offensive skills are very good.

I suspect that Buddy will be the main defender on Niang with Isaih and Spengler trading off a bit.

Nice post

I think we'llk switch just like normal. But Id assume Cousins/spangler/Buddy the most.

Yeah that's true. Good analysis man. Buddy seemed to match up well with him last year until he took him down low. Just have to hope we have good help defense. This year they don't have the great 3 point shooting they had last year so it may work better.

I don't think Spangler is slow and especially not compared to Niang. Niang is good but he doesn't appear to have elite quickness to me. Bi see him nor as a guy that can do a bit of everything and is therefore tough to defend.

I wouldn't use Spangler because OU cannot afford him to be in foul trouble. I might use Lattin some. His size and athletic ability might cause some problems.

No way I want Buddy defending him.... Niang could draw fouls on him, and you can't have Buddy sitting on the bench.

Buford, Spangler, Lattin, etc.

I take it you didn't watch us play them last year

What about Buford?

I thought he might get a shot after Spangler, but he didn't even see the floor, right?

So much for our depth. Odomes and McNeace don't play. Buford either sees no time or very little. We're pretty much an 8 man team right now with Walker, Manyang, and some James off the bench. If you thought the team was tired in previous seasons, I don't see how this year is going to be any different. Would't surprise me if some guys end up playing more than last year.

James has some good minutes last night. Odomes and Buford really need to step it up. They're the kind of athletes that would really help against these difficult match-ups Iowa State provides.

8 guys is plenty! If odomes and Buford can help that's awesome, but most coaches don't play more than 8.

James was bad on def early and once he settled down he played much better.

Late tip on def that lead to OUs run in 2nd half was huge.

You could see LK moving toward the future rotation the past several games of conf preseason. Buford will see more time in many games where the whistles are blowing more. Probably some defensive concerns still. I thought the other 3 off-the-bench guys played pretty well.

That entire group he was in with at first really struggled with assignments. I don't think it was just him.
