So what's your take? Remember they pick 10 players for the All Conference team. No first team, second team.

I think there are 5 virtually unanimous picks:

Griner
Sims
Ellenberg
Poppens
Chambers

So who will be the other 5? My candidates are:
Young
McFarland
Christofferson
Goodrich
Davis

POY will be Griner, FOY Martin, COY will be Mulkey (though it should be Coale)

A team seeded seventh has two on the roster? I don't know what the writers will do. I think Prins, Griffin, Chynna Brown, Liz Donohoe, Bias, Hook, and Pope deserve consideration. I think Brown will likely make it.

Donohoe had a pretty mediocre year, I don't think there's any way she makes it. What about Medley down at TCU? Is she a pretty good player on a really bad team?

McGee-Stafford of Fexas has been selected freshman of week 6 times to Martins 5.

I had to go back and look it up. Donohoe actually raised her scoring average this year from 13.1 to 13.3, and she led the Big Twelve in free throw percentage. It may have just seemed like a slump due to how she exploded on the scene last year.

Martin is an interesting pick. I hadn't thought of Medley, but she was among the conference leaders in assist/turnover ratio as well as being TCU's leading scorer. She might be a solid FOY.

True. But Martin was pretty consistent all year. Ryan Cameron, OSU media relations, tweeted Martin was top 5 among freshman in all major staistical categories.. That is pretty impressive. She is also Top 20 in Big 12 among all players in 3 categories I believe.

Stafford came on strong late in the year and might be fresh in the minds of people and steal the award. Both are deserving.

Aaryn has to be on the team, being our leading scorer every single game with modest amounts of steals and assists as well. We have a few other chances I think...

McFarland: For all the double-doubles
Hand: Sympathy vote/career recognition?
Griffin: For her modest improvement lately

The others, I don't see. Do we have a freshmen team too?

They are posting them from 10 to 11 a.m. central time on big12sports.com. Some are up now. Guess who is POY and who is COY. Portia is co-newcomer of the year.

Aaryn will make it for sure. Would like to see Jo make it but doubt she will.

These are picked by the coaches. On the one hand, they've seen all the players, on the other hand, no one goes out on a limb.
It looks pretty formula to me.
Two players off of each of the top 2 teams, one each off of the next 6.
Interesting that Christofferson was a unanimous choice, Poppens not, and Chambers not.

The second team is more revealing - who was really good that the formula left out.

Texas with a lot of underperforming talent doesn't have anyone on either the first or second team. Fussell may have been a preseason pick.

Co-newcomers of the year is an admission that no jucos or transfers made an impression. In the last game (OU-TT), Durrett didn't play, and Patterson had 0 points, 0 rebounds in 6 minutes.

I like your selections Tango, except Coale for coach of the year. Baylor wouldn't have needed a coach to win all their games this year.

Coach of the Year, as voted by the coaches, is pretty automatic. I think it's always been the coach of the conference winning team. If I'm reading the asterisks right, it was not unanimous - which means that some coach other than Kim voted for a coach other than Kim. Heaven help them if she finds out who it was ;)

I fully expect a Mulkey explosion because not all of her starters were named on the first team!

She'll probably take a shot at Vegas while she's at it, too...

Since Vegas was a unanimous selection, then Mulkey shouldn't have anything to say about Aaryn being on the first team.

Not till the Big 12 tourney postgame conferneces at least. <groan>

Does the media also pick an all Big 12 team? They are the ones who pick the weekly awards.
