pre getting covid Alondes was a starter that was in double digits 6 times and above 8 points 8 times in 14 games ..

since having covid he has a max of 4 points and 2 games with 0 points in 5 games ...

he is a big athletic wing and he was way up on the season +/- before his sickness and IMHO this has been a major factor in the late season slide ..

with him playing over 20 min a night of high quality basketball it also let Mo give us a scoring punch off of the bench

Great point. He can be a major X-factor for us if he can get back to his pre-covid energy.

In general, this team really needs to get back to having a lot of bench production. During our streak of beating top-10 teams, our bench was MONEY. No matter who came in, there was no drop off in energy or productivity. Everyone who came in did their job. I kept saying this was by FAR the deepest team of the Lon era. Cut to the game in Stillwater Monday night, we got a grand total of 2 points (free throws), 0 rebounds, 4 fouls, 3 turnovers, and 1 steal from our entire bench. Granted, they need minutes in order to be productive (Kur only played 2 minutes on Monday, for example), but Lon needs to know he can rely on those guys again.

Would love for him to start and play 20min. Gibson come off bench and just shoot it.. Williams just needs to play even if he's struggling a bit.. just let him get a feel out there again.

His ability to get out and finish on the fast break is helpful and as said above, the quality depth of this team - with Hill, Williams, Vic and KK was a great strength and allowed LK to go with the hot hand down the stretch. But Williams got COVID, Hill has started to slump lately, Vic can't keep from fouling and I am not sure why KK doesn't play more.

Getting these four back to mid-season form would help a lot come Big 12 and, hopefully, those second-round Saturday, Sunday games to get you into the Sweet 16.

His lack of production has hurt us the last few games. He has been terrible leading a couple of fast breaks recently. Fouling a poor three point shooter Monday didn’t help his cause for playing times.

Yes the fast break blunders have literally cost us the last 3 games. Looks like they never run a fast break before.

Btw, that “foul” was BS and Lon let the official know. Alondes jumped to the side of the player who kicked his leg out sideways to make it look like a foul.

Iffy call but Williams has a terrible habit of fouling three-point shooters.

He was big last night although Brown had 2 huge blocks on him when Raney was hitting his 3’s. His play was one of two positives last night. Kur’s resurgence was the other.

Yes. Those were the 2 big adjustments LK finally made in second half. Finally add Kur to help around rim and try to isolate Williams on smaller guy who is not a great defender. Problem is that by then we had no room for mistakes and we still made some.

Wouldn’t be at all surprised to see Williams start Wednesday and Mo come off the bench, which was the lineup before Alondes got covid.

I agree with those who think Kur should have been used earlier. The only thing I can think of is that Vic was very good in Austin and I think that’s why Lon gave him the first half minutes off the bench. But once it didn’t pan out, and Sims kept having his way with Brady, I absolutely think Lon should have turned to Kur sooner.

Lon makes some head scratcher moves sometimes in deciding who and when to bring players off of the bench. But IMHO, keeping Kur on the sideline until the last twelve minutes or so of the second half was a monumental mistake. Brady was frustrated and powerless to contain Sims. Kur came into the game and almost immediately met a Texas big (I think it was Sims) at the rim. The momentum swung in our favor and so did the score. Unfortunately, it was too little too late.

It would be interesting to know why Lon kept Kur glued to the bench the entire first half and roughly half of the second? It doesn’t take a basketball genius to figure out he might have been our best chance to neutralize Sims and other Texas bigs who were scoring inside with ease, mostly on uncontested dunks.

I like Lon, but some of the things he does make no sense sometimes. One of them is stubbornly refusing to play Manek and Kur together at the same time. Kur as a rim protector and rebounder and Manek as a scorer. I mean, what can it hurt to at least try?

Especially when the other team goes big as OSU did with Boone and Moncrief and Texas with Simms and Kai Jones. Crazy that Lon cannot adjust during the game. Talk about going from potential coach of the year to an embarrassment in two weeks.
