I dont think some guys realize that sometimes you recruit according to how a guy fits your system. I know everyone is enamored with Clark but Woodard is the guy I wanted all along. Clark is a great great scorer but why would you want your PG to be a volume shooter? And, on the other hand, why would you want your SG to be 6' tall? One of those is happening with Clark.


Clark is exceptional but Woodard just FITS.

I know when Im recruiting my players I look for guys who fit in with our style first. Of course we arent on the level with OU but we still go after particular types of players.

Doesnt mean much but that is my opinion.

Over the past year this is one of the biggest things I've learned about basketball recruiting/team building in general. There are very few times when a player is just too good for a team to ignore building toward their style/needs.

I sure think that is right. And I think that the impact of coaching in college ball is vastly underated by many. The notion that just rounding up the most high ranked recruits and everything will be fine, is just wrong.

The programs that are able to do that and win championships, have really talented coaches.

Just spent some time in SF and went to USF to see the gym where Bill Russell and KC Jones played. The facility is an enlarged HS arena. I can't see this kid signing with them unless Rex Walters performs some sort of magic act to get him.
