Woodard vs Clark

Two different players, two different opportunities.

Woodard is a beast, it remains to be seen whether or not Clark will be able to positively effect a game like Woodard does. Stevie hasn't just really gotten the chance.

I'm in this camp.

It's just really tough to compare them because their roles are very different.

Woodard is averaging more than 10 minutes more per game of playing time than Clark is. (28 mpg vs. 16 mpg)

Clark's role is to come in, spell Smart for a while and don't do anything stupid.

Woodard is the primary point guard and #3 scoring option.

Very different roles right now.

I don't think Woodard is the number 3 scoring option. I would say 4 or 5. I think the top three scoring options for OU are Clark, Hield and Cousins. At this moment Woodard has a slightly higher scoring average than Cousins and Spangler but that is primarily due to free throw shooting. I only say this because I think it is important for everyone to realize Woodard is trying to get everyone else producing points rather than looking for his own shot.

Fair enough, but the point is that he's a starter and a major contributor, contrasting to Clark's role as a pure backup and someone who is not being asked to be a major contributor either in scoring or assists.

Agree, most back up point guards are not asked to score and most of the time no plays are run for them to score. Now The Thunder may be an exception.

I agree.

I have said nothing bad about Stevie Clark and defended him against those that question his academics. I haven't seen him play enough to really comment on his basketball skills other than to know he is an outstanding basketball player or he wouldn't have a Big XII scholarship.

Honestly, it doesn't have to be a personal competition between these two kids. They can both be really good players. It doesn't have to be an either or situation. When they play each other, I will always pull for Woodard but I have no reason not to like Clark.

To me the entire NBA is different. The bench players are expected to produce points because teams play such a long schedule and the bench plays significant minutes. The Thunder have 10 guys averaging 13 minutes or more per game.

It is mandatory in the NBA to have bench players that produce points. In college a team might only go 7 or 8 deep and still be a good team. College teams would love bench production but is not as important.

Both are doing what their teams need. Clark is a good PG. I think he'd be a fit at OU the way these guys have freedom. But I'm still glad we got Jordan...

I thought Clark had a pretty complete game and was disappointed that we backed off him but I am very happy with Woodard who I think will only get better with no baggage.

We didn't back of Stevie because of his playing ability. His mom was acting like she was needing something for her son to sign and that isn't ever going to happen with Lon and he will quit recruiting at that time.
Otherwise we would have loved to have both of them. He would have been a 2 at OU.

FYI Stevie was guilty in Florida but so were the two stars in aggieland. Travis just made sure that Stevie took the fall for those guys. The true dirt bag is Travis Ford.
