“The Glue Guy”: Rashard Odomes

He's a good player. And he can make open 3s, and he needs to take them when they come his way. Will open up his slashing so much more.

A few weeks ago, I posted that Doolittle had the potential to be the 2nd best player on this team. Well....I was very wrong (once again:D). When taking into account all facets of the game (offense, defense, bball smarts, effort, etc.), there is no debate that Odomes is the 2nd best player on this team right now. The guy is fearless and plays with as much confidence as Trae. As a further example, you can tell he has worked on his FT shooting because it is so much better than it was in December. It still pisses me off that Odomes is usually the first guy subbed for every game. We need him on the floor as much as possible.

Coaches wish we would’ve RS a year. Would’ve been nice but hindsight 20/20 he got stuck in a rut his freshmen year!

i am all for him going iso every time when trae is out. and i wouldn’t mind him going all terrell everett next year if trae leaves. he’s a good enough passer. but i also realize how much energy he would exert guarding the other team’s best player. so i can dream.

Was fortunate enough to have floor seats against TCU. Other than TY's otherwordliness (multiple 3s probably 5 feet from us), the thing that really stood out to me was Rashard's pure hustle, effort, and energy. Always the first one down the court on both ends, great defensive intensity.

Very good comparison to Everett.

If he could end up next year scoring like Everett, that

Roe is one of my favorite Sooners. Love his attitude, and I really like how his game has evolved... was at the Baylor game abc there were times he single handed willed us back into the lead by a key defensive play or by something on the offensive end... and I too lament that he was not redshirted...

I like Odomes, he is a good player, but he isn't Terrell Everett. Everett was a really good player, and had ball-handling ability that is far superior to Odomes. If Odomes could dribble/handle/pass like Everett he'd be an all-conference player with his size and athletic ability.

Everett averaged 7 assists per game, along with 13 ppg on a team that went 25-8.... and I believe lost to Utah in the NCAA Tournament. He was also more of a threat to hit shots than Odomes.

I think a better comparison to Odomes is Daryan Selvy. Super athlete, hustle guy, kind of a tweener, etc. Not really a threat to shoot jumpers, below average FT shooter for a wing, etc.

Selvy and Odomes help you win games in a lot of ways that don't show up in the box score. Charges, hustle plays, great defense, athletic ability, etc. Selvy was definitely a glue guy.

LOVED me some Daryan Selvy. That guy would leave it on the floor defensively and it picked the entire team up.

About the only good memory from the 2002 Final Four was when Selvy got in the lane, had nothing really available, so he basically tossed it off the glass to himself, grabbed the rebound, and scored. You guys are right, he was a very valuable player, not a great shooter but helped in so many ways, much like Odomes. He actually shot a decent percentage at the line that year, but missed the front end of a 1-and-1 with the game tied late against Indiana, and things fell apart from there. Still think about that game all the time, with a healthy Quannas, there is about a 90% chance we would have been playing for the title two nights later.

selvy and odomes games are nothing like eachothers

If the other players would copy what you saw in Rashard.....[sigh]

Am I asking for too much?

Lattin came out and something about getting ready to see a defensive transformation... cant find the exact quote anymore

I think they're a lot alike too. It was like PG13 against Denver last night. He will just pick a spot and turn on the intensity to 1000% in a burst and suddenly we have an extra possession. Not necessarily because of a bad pass or a called press or trap. Just an internal decision to bear down and mark a stand or a difference. Of course, George also scores 40+ with amazing offensive gifts.

That's very encouraging to hear. Defense is about attitude and effort....and I was hoping it would eat at those guys in that they know they can play much better on that side of the ball.
