selvey was a 4 and had no ability to play any other position

he was a limited offensive player he averaged 6.7 and 4.9 as a senior
and 6.9 and 5.2 as a jr ..

lol. don’t argue. his stance makes me feel even more confident about my crazy ideas. offensively there is no comparison. none. anyone who actually watches can see that. selvy didn’t score on iso’s. i wasn’t comparing his game to everrett. i just think he could run the offense in similar fashion if it came down to it next year, because i had a lot of faith in shep, but i am losing it...

i agree with you .. odomes is a very good passer .. now i don't think he could be a full time pg ... but he could help initiate the O

That's very encouraging to hear. Defense is about attitude and effort....and I was hoping it would eat at those guys in that they know they can play much better on that side of the ball.

+ 1

If Khadeem actually sells out every minute he’s on the floor, his senior leadership could trigger a renewed emphasis on defense. There is no reason whatsoever this team should not be as good on the defensive end as they are on the offensive end.

Like you said, defense is about attitude and effort. Here’s hoping we’ll see that on defense for a change.

One of my favorite players to watch growing up was Nolan Johnson. It seemed during a stretch of games players couldn't stay in front of him. Nolan had a crossover that'd shake you out your shoes and the ability to finish strong at the rim. I think if I remember correctly, Nolan was a lefty as is Odomes. Either way, I think body type, athletically, skill wise and shooting wise to some degree Odomes hits some checkmarks compared to Nolan. Nolan had a awkward shooting release but could dot some eyes, good midrange pull up game but his bread and butter was attacking the basket. I remember the swinging dunk at OSU in the old Iba arena that took the air out. Guy was a bulldog, Sampson put the ball in his hands and let him create. Wasn't Nolan a JUCO guy originally from the East Coast?

Not a bad comparison, especially in the style of play. Nolan could be a one-man offense at times. OU would clear the floor and let him work his magic. Rashard is taller, but he doesn’t have Nolan’s bulk or his booty to create space inside (Nolan was listed st 6’ 4” 220).

Thanks for the memories!

Selvy 6-6/215
Odomes 6-6/217

Both Selvy and Odomes are defense-first guys. Odomes mainly perimeter, Selvy could guard both.

Selvy (2-year avg) 23 minutes, 6.8 PPG, 5.0 REB, 1.0 AST, 1.4 STL
Odomes (2-year avg) 24 minutes, 9.1 PPG, 4.2 REB, 1.6 AST, 0.8 STL

Selvy 46 FG%, 29 3P%, 67 FT%
Odomes 49 FG%, 31 3P%, 61 FT%

They are really similar.

I'd concede the Nolan Johnson comp is a good one too. Left-handed and could take you off the dribble. But Odomes isn't near the shooter Johnson was, and is a better defender.
