Turnovers and Turnovers… Thats the name of the game for OU WBB atm. Hopefully it will change as the more we play.
Im afraid you may be onto something… Until we see a ACTUAL Improvement on TO’s then yes I can see it happening otherwise.SC is going to beat us by 20+
Maybe… prob is our unforced TO’s… just some seriously bone headed things.Verhaulst at the 1, joens at the 2, keys at the 3, vann or Sahara at the 4, and beers or Liz Scott at the 5. You have 3 great 3 point shooters who can all feed the post, and once they double are center. Are 3 point % will raise to over 40%. If you want to go with a defensive team play tot, Reyna, z vann, and kj. But you will have tons of turnovers and no perimeter shooting.
Agree to disagree. Thls team will be a sweet l6 because of Jennie, rest of staff and, of course, players. We were better than the no 5 team Tex, should have beat Tenn by more and were better than this team. We were just flat....off? Besides the turnovers, it seems the team needs to hit more free throws and that something needs to change in their play....as far as schematically.........but I am not a coach and do not really know. Still do not feel some of last year's starters are playing their best and it seems to be because their adjustment to Beers and then Liz being back. I imagine their benefit to the team has changed and that is probably a difficult thing to which to adapt.Jennie B ain't it. OU has 2 terrible basketball coaches. Jennie B is better, but that is like being the tallest short person.
Agree 100%…. But some posters on here don’t want to discuss the obvious. That’s their choice, as it is our choice to discuss these flaws.I like Jennie as a coach and love the team. They play very hard and I appreciate the effort. I think they have a high ceiling. However, the constant mindless turnovers has necessitated me not watching them or listening to their games. I just keep checking the box score constantly through the game and keep up with it that way. This has made following them much more enjoyable for me. Probably safer for me too, the turnovers were blowing up my blood pressure even when we won.
I usually try and find highlights on youtube after the game which will let you watch the key plays. I know some of you are frustrated with the constant turnovers and, like with me, it detracts from the enjoyment of watching the game. You might try my approach. I like it. Hopefully, we will start playing a little smarter as the year goes on (we normally do) and I may try watching the games again.
The thing I like about Jennie the most as a coach is that, like Billy Tubbs, she does want anyone on the floor passing up an open shot that is within their skill set. 99% of all girls and boys coaches try and get a particular or better shot, and I just don't agree with that. Not surprisingly, and like with Tubbs teams, that freedom leads to the kids immersing themselves in the game, and shooting the ball better. And, they play pretty good defense and rebound pretty well. They appear well schooled in these areas. Billy's theory on passing was much like Barry Switzer (there are only 3 things that can happen when you pass and 2 are bad), he didn't like his kids doing it unless they had to. I also hate it when a pass is thrown into the post for purposes of running a play. Billy's post players went to a shot as a part of the catch or did an immediate relay of the ball to the wing when the other team doubled from the wing. Jennie plays a lot that way. So, in my eyes, there is a lot to like about the way the girls play.
However when they are passing the ball side to side the girls don't understand nor employ "flattening" of their defender and then releasing to the outside to catch the ball, and they are constantly getting defenders cutting in front in the passing lane and stealing the ball. On inbounds plays, they run a play but don't have a safe counter to just get the ball in. They don't seem to realize someone can just go get the ball if need be. The insanity of, in a pinch and late in the 5 seconds, throwing it into the backcourt, about 50% of the time to the other team, is maddening to me. Man, do they need some work on fundamental passing angles and dribbling "to nowhere". They have kids dribbling to the baseline and stopping outside the lane (exactly what every defense wants you to do) incessantly). Then, they have to throw the ball away or throw an unsafe lob wildly towards the other teams goal). I could go on, but won't. Fortunately, each game gives tape to look at and improve on and under Jennie they normally have improved over the course of each year. So, I am hopefully we can use a little better judgment.
