#9 OU vs #5 Texas 8pm 1/2

The game really shifted in the 2nd when the fouls started accumulating. It's hard to defend when you're getting called for touch fouls 20 feet from the ball, moving screens while Texas doesn't, etc. 54 fouls in the game! It was really tough to watch.

I know we could have been more physical and disciplined, but the fouls really threw a wrench in the game plan.

We also shot horribly from behind the arc, and two of those make this a completely different game late.

I don't understand why Culleton has moved ahead of KJ in the rotation- she doesn't give us anything as far as I can tell. As limited as she is by her size, at this point Tot is the best option at PG, Zya will be great but she's still a true freshmen, and as talented as Reyna is she turns the ball over too much. Tonight was an exception that Tot had so many turnovers, usually she has more assists than turnovers. And when you have more turnovers than baskets you are going to lose.

Agreed, there were many times when Tot came in off the bench and immediately threw the ball away, not even forced. If she'd just done her ONLY job and taken care of the ball we'd have probably won. Our girls just don't make good decisions and that's probably the difference in our team and elite teams. There were so many silly unforced TOs last night - at one point they tried to pass it down low to Keys 2-3 plays in a row and every single time it resulted in a TO! We can score with the best of them, but our discipline is horrible and it's not getting any better. I think it's a reflection of the talent UT has. They've got a roster full of HS All-Americans, and it shows the way they value the ball and play defense. We looked just as good and even better than them in the first quarter, but we resorted back to our regular sloppy play the next 3 quarters. I don't know that this will improve much from now to the end of the season. It'll be the reason why we can't get past a certain point in the post-season, I guarantee it.

I actually felt that Culliton played one hell of a game last night. Last night was her best game in a very long time, IMO. She was actually aggressive rebounding, the way she should always be, and she even scored a few times! I'm really happy with how Scott and Culliton stepped up when Beers was in foul trouble. KJ just doesn't seem to make good decisions while on the court, and is far from using her length to her advantage - is she capable of getting better and producing for us? I would have said yes earlier this year, but idk now. Tot was just horrible at times last night, and it made the difference in the outcome of the game. I really, really hope our girls learn from this loss and are better for it, but they just don't seem to be able to get their TOs under control, and that may fall on the staff. Tennessee will beat us if we play the way we did last night, and we'll be 0-2 in the conference.

First, I love Jennie's coaching style and what she is doing with the program. But, this team can be really hard to watch at the moment. Since JB has been here, we have seen the team improve greatly during the season and play smarter as the year goes on. But, I find it nearly impossible to watch 18-20 completely unforced turnovers. I know there were more turnovers than that. I said "unforced" turnovers. Turnovers are a part of the game, particularly in the women's game, but the completely silly judgment turnovers are maddening.

Love the team and wish them well, they have great potential. But, I will have to take a few games off and then rejoin the bandwagon. For me it isn't much about whether we win or lose, I guess I am a "purest" in that I just like watching good basketball, win or lose. Last night looked like a junior high girls game where a team might play an entire game and only a few shots on goal. They looked like they didn't even know how to get the ball in bounds sometimes.

BTW, I hope they don't let the girls game turn into an MMA match, like they have with the boys game. Not nearly as much fun to watch. Thought I ladies did a really good job of matching their physicality, which we haven't always done over the years with those types of teams. We have already destroyed the boys game, we really need to keep freedom of movement a part of the girls game. The rules of basketball are suppose to prevent your physically redirecting movement of an offensive player's movement unless you have proper position. You are not allowed to use your hands, arms or body to impede free movement. The out of position body contact and grab ass man to man they allow now is just stupid. However, what coaches like at texas understand is that nobody wants to watch a million fouls, and so if you can get all of your kids to play that way, the officials will just have to let them play that way after a while. Oh well, I am just an old guy telling everyone to get off his lawn.

Still love Jennie and the girls, but my blood pressure required this venting.

Speaking of the game plan, I'm pretty sure it called for Beers to play more than the 16 minutes she played. As usual, ESPN did a lousy job of showing replays but most of the fouls that were called on Beers seemed to be touch fouls. We thrive on the inside out game and we needed Beers on the court to make that work. When we got that 12 point lead, Schaefer went to his 'foul them all over the court and the refs will get tired of blowing their whistles' and we didn't respond to it well. Offensively, no one but Verhulst really showed up and she only hit 1 of 11 3s. Defensively, we play much better defense when Beers is on the court.

Not only having Beers limited but also Sahara who only played 20 minutes hurt us badly by how the game was called so many touch fouls and one referee seemed to be calling most of the fouls
