40-15 at half. Suffocating defense and dominating on the boards is the key to our lead.

Three point shooting was a struggle this game. Hopefully it improves but it’s nice to have an inside game when the outside shot isn’t falling.

76-44 final…would have been a bigger margin if we shot anywhere close to our norm from 3…only went 3-22. But from 2 we were great hitting 26-39 Beers went for 21 points on 8-11 shooting and added 14 rebounds. Sahara scored 19 and continues to show improvement from last year. Skylar with 12.

Defense and rebounding were also really strong…I think Beers makes a huge difference on defense also. Good first game…Virginia on Friday will be a good early season game to see what we need to improve on.

I can only think of three reasons Landry wasn't in uniform-redshirting, injured, or academically ineligible. She didn't walk or move like she was injured, academic ineligibility would be unlikely I think. Most bball girls are great students. Her parents were at the game which rules out any discontent I think. Probably a wise move. She starts at one of the forward positions next year I think. Imagine Beers, KJ, Landry in at the same time? with Keeley and Zya at the guards. Look out world!

I haven't seen enough of Landry to really have an opinion on her skillset, but starting next season she'd have to be very much improved, IMO, from the little I saw last year of her.

I agree, Sahara seems to be much improved. It's for sure she's more confident and aggressive out there, but I wonder what other improvements she's made? Her shooting is yet to be determined, as she's not taken many shots from the perimeter, but her improvement is a great sign for this year's team. Beers is dominant and so talented with great hands and reminds me of CP3. Vann might see her production drop somewhat this year as she won't be asked to do as much, which might be a good thing for the young lady, who knows. I'm still wondering if starting Tot & Verhulst as the only 2 good ballhandlers is wise right now, but i'm sure JB will try several mixtures of players moving forward. All in all, a great first game and excited to see how we play against a much better opponent Friday!

I would love to see Zya start a game over Nevaeh. Just to get a feel and see how it looks.
I feel like Zya is just so much more calmer with the ball and much better defensively than Nevaeh is. Jennie said in her press after the game that Zya is good defensively, she said Zya loves to guard opponents.
Raegan is TOUGH she reminds me a lot of CP3. Tough, strong, great hands and footwork.
Sahara looked EXTREMELY GOOD on defense yesterday against small fast guards of Southern, she was keeping up, last year Sahara wouldn’t have kept up. Southern was scrappy and spicy with a LOT of speed. She definitely has IMPROVED a LOT.

Gotta surprise Verhulst didn’t score much. And we were NOT good behind the arch yesterday. And Turnovers were killing felt like.

You can tell the game has slowed down for Sahara. She plays more under control and takes time to gather herself when going up for a shot. Last year she tried to rely on athleticism alone. This year she is using her head to amplify her athleticism. She has a bright future.
