#11 OU at #24 Georgia 5:30pm 2/19

They did fine. Georgia is not sob easy team. 2nd half looked rough and Sahara wild today Chavez saved the game and so did Vann.

Chavez 27 points 5 assists 2 steals only 1 turnover and played 38 minutes…she carried us today when Verhulst was hurt and Beers had a very off game.

Great win, especially since only Chavez was a D1 player tonight.

The lack of depth OU has is, well, concerning.

Why did they get to keep the ball after the double dribble? If they changed it they never announced it. Some of the worst officiating I've seen tonight.

Overall.. ya horrible calls…
I didn’t think she doubled, definitely not on the replay… I’m guessing the officials discussed it and changed it.

I was listening to the OU call and they never said.

The only thing I could think of is the officials gave Georgia a timeout before the double dribble was called.

Really fun game to watch. Variety of kids came up big down the stretch.

Couldn't disagree more jdizzle34 with your opinion that we lack depth or D1 players. Looks like we have at least 10 to me. So, to each his own I guess. All but 5-6 schools would trade their roster for ours. You must think Jennie is one hell of a coach to win the way she does with non D1 players.

I thought Georgia was a good team, particularly their center. Loved her little mid-range fall away jumper. Tough to stop.

And finally, when Chavez doesn't get sped up and just lets the game come to her, she is pretty special.

I agree with cowboysooner about our depth. We wouldn't have won this game without our bench -- particularly Smith and Lofton's defense.

Their center was unreal last night. Every time she initiated contact on an offensive move, we fouled. And when she didn't make contact and faded away, it felt like she made the shot every single time.

We don't talk enough about how great Jennie's teams are at rebounding, year in and year out. That was a massive advantage for us in this game. 2nd chance points were huge and helped us overcome a poor shooting night.

Obviously we need to find ways to keep Raegan on the floor. She also needs to be better from the FT line (I think I heard she's around 35% from the line in conference play?) but MAN she made two massive ones when we had to have them. We couldn't get any defensive stops late in the 4th and those were crucial to outscore them.

Mont, Reagan just can't stop dealing with defenders with her arms and hands. That is illegal and completely unnecessary for a girl as big and strong as she is. She just needs to stop it. Not to be indelicate, but she can legally bully people with her rear end all day if she wants. Just needs to understand positioning and constantly move her feet to maintain positioning.

Most coaches (in the boys game anyway ) have always taught their bigs to raise their arm and hand in the air when they have position and want the ball, otherwise use their body. Jennie lets her perimeter players attempt to feed the post in a manner that forces the big to move to the ball. Leads to a ton of turnovers. Sometimes I guess it works. Definitely not old school fundamentals though. She also lets them attempt to feed the post down the free throw lane even when the low post player is being fronted. Old school thought is this shouldn't happen. Move the ball to the wing, let your post get position and then use the angle opposite of the defender to feed the ball to a stationary posts free and raised hand. Again, Jennie doesn't follow this old school coaching belief. Works sometimes and leads to turnovers sometimes.

Turnovers aside, I love watching Jennie's teams play. The freedom those kids have to focus on the game and just play without worrying about things is amazing. Must admit, I have to turn off the TV sometimes when we go through a stretch where we don't even get a shot on goal for 4=5 possessions. But I just wait a while and then turn the TV back on. Bottom line for me, this is a really good and fun team.

I agree that sometimes Reagan uses her arms when she shouldn't, but the last few games there has been a lot of flopping going on. Some of her fouls are of the 'playing basketball while big and strong' variety.

We sat out defense in the 4th. I thought that was very risky, but it ended fine this time. Smith is so fast, she just needs to work on control.

MsProud, while I agree that we are seeing a lot of flopping or exaggeration of contact by defenders on Beers. It is only going to get worse. Coach Venables calls this "professional curtesy". Film review clearly shows Beers uses her arms and hands when she shouldn't and so they just tell the kids to demonstrate excessively in order to get the call. In other words, Beers is opening the door to getting these offensive calls by the improper use of her upper body. The silly thing is she doesn't need to do it and she can be just as effective without doing it.

Beers is great and we are way way better with her on the court. I hope she cleans up her use of her arms and hands, because otherwise, you would be hard pressed to play better than she is. Her defense has been really good, which is here most posts run into foul problem.

yeah I also feel Beers fouls way too much on offense, to the point that it's really hurting us because she's only playing about 22 minutes on acct of it. Just imagine if she could play 30+. With a deeper team it wouldn't be as much of an issue, but in the post season this year i fear it could come up to bite us.
