With apologies to Liz, her taking that shot to the face was my favorite moment of the game because Jennie instantly sprinted out to check on her, without hesitation. She clearly cares about each member of this team so deeply. The "love one another, love Oklahoma" mantra isn't just a saying: it's the culture embedded. How could players not want to come play for her?
On another note... we all know that officiating in women's college basketball leaves a lot to be desired, but I've particularly been frustrated by all of the offensive fouls called on Raegan and Sahara. They are often SO much stronger than their defenders and make strong, controlled moves to the basket, but if the defender falls down, it feels like it is a called charge EVERY time. It's annoying to watch and is clearly frustrating to the players. I believe Sahara had three of them called against her yesterday (one of them made her so mad she had to run to the bench to keep her cool), and all of those count as turnovers. We're all frustrated by the unforced silly turnovers (I'm okay if we ban lob passes to the post; no one on this team is good at throwing those), but as Jennie keeps preaching: she's okay with the turnovers that come within the freedom of the offense. Sahara and Raegan's post moves are definitely among those, even if officials keep wrongly rewarding the defenders.
