2014-15 Season: Who Big 12 teams are losing, returning, and adding

form looking at that a few team still have scholarships to give in the late period, and one team is already over the 13 scholarship limit before the late signing period.

My "way too early prediction" on next year's standings:

KU
ut
OU
Baylor (if Austin stays)
ISU
osu
KSU
WVU
TT
TCU

Very difficult, b/c I don't see much difference, again, between OU, UT, and Baylor/OSU if they play up to their talent. I think OU might be better this year, but still slip a spot or two in the standings. I think ISU will slip a little too. Not sure they have the pg play to be nearly as good next year.

No way TCU finishes last. That's a decent team they'll have barring more injuries.

I also think that TCU will be much improved. They had several good players redshirting this past season.

I may be difficult for Tubby to stay out of the cellar.

They won ZERO games this year. Who are they going to finish ahead of? Maybe TT?

I'd bet just about any amount of money on them finishing last, or next to last.

I can name a player on every team except maybe TT, that is better than anybody on TCU's roster next year.

Funny, I figured folks would disagree with where I put OU, or the top tier teams. Figured TCU finishing last again, despite the fact that they might be better, and will likely win a few games, would be something everybody agreed with.

tcu should be much improved next year .. and tech will be much worse ..

that said it is still a huge coaching miss match ..

I'll go:

KU

ut

OU

Baylor (assuming Austin leaves)

WVU

ISU

KSU

OState (assuming Nash stays)

TCU

Tech

Don't see how KU doesn't win or how Tech stays out of the cellar.

Well, these March pre-season rankings/speculations don’t mean much. TCU coach Trent Johnson must have something on the ball. He was named conference coach-of-the-year in each of the previous three conferences in which he coached:

  • 2003 WAC (Nevada)
  • 2008 Pac-10 (Stanford)
  • 2009 SEC (LSU)

It is not ridiculous to speculate that he might get out of the cellar next season. It is very reasonable to think that TCU will be better. Texas Tech could be worse. Its not like anyone really wants to bet on these things. ;)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trent_Johnson

Nevada - In five seasons as head coach of the Nevada Wolf Pack, Johnson helped establish an unprecedented level of success for the program. This culminated in the 2003-2004 season, when Johnson guided the Wolf Pack to a 25-9 record and its first NCAA Division I tournament appearance since 1985. Led by stars Kirk Snyder, Marcelus Kemp and Nick Fazekas, Nevada defeated Michigan State and Gonzaga in the opening rounds of the tournament, before falling to eventual tournament runner-up Georgia Tech in the Sweet 16.

Stanford - Stanford University athletic director Ted Leland had long been impressed with Johnson, a former Stanford assistant, and kept him in mind if Mike Montgomery ever decided to move on. Less than a week after Montgomery quit to coach the NBA's Golden State Warriors, Johnson was hired to lead the Cardinal. In his four seasons at Stanford, Trent Johnson had a record of 80–48 (.625). He led the Cardinal to three appearances in the NCAA tournament and one NIT tournament appearance. Johnson's 2007–08 team advanced to the Sweet 16.

LSU - On April 10, 2008, Johnson was officially named the 20th head coach of the LSU Tigers men's basketball team. With the hiring, Johnson became the first African American head coach of a men's sports team at LSU. Johnson would go on to win the SEC COY award during his first season after compiling a 13–3 regular season record to win the conference title outright. His 26–7 overall record, along with the SEC title, would be enough to earn his team its first NCAA tournament berth since 2006. The next two seasons were not nearly as successful, winning a combined 5 conference games and going 11-20 in both years.

Thus, he is at TCU.

To be fair I did say they "might" climb above TT. That said, I don't see TCU winning more than 4-5 games, tops. Regardless of what the TT roster looks like today, I think Tubby might be able to top that.

Why is everyone picking UT over OU? We basically return everyone from a team that finished 2nd over UT this year. Plus we are adding much needed size.

I think someone is trying to create a little stimulating conversation. I think it should be reversed, in my humble opinion.

I believe we will be significantly better next season but we do lose 2 in our rotation. ut doesn't lose anyone and could possibly add a 5 star C recruit (although I didn't really take this into account with my picks). I'll picked them this way until I see how our FR recruits adjust. Regardless, I don't know that there will necessarily be a fog's hair of difference between the 2.

OSU - Soucek is graduating and I believe is moving on. Gary Gaskns left during the second semester.

I agree. I actually expect (as opposed to want) OU to finish ahead of UT.

UT is also adding Jordan Barnett, who is severely underrated. Looks like an NBA small forward already.

TCU-Chris Washburn, the former pro's son?
Baylor: Taurean Prince: Didn't OU have a player with the last name of Prince several years ago who may have transferred out?
KU: Oubre. Still puzzled over this one. Didn't Switzer and several OU former players come to the Oubre's family aid after they were wiped out by Katrina and help them get on their feet again? Did we not want him?

Kyan Anderson is better than anyone on Tech's roster IMO
