And the head coach at Tulsa is Matilda Mossman, former head coach at Norman High School, University of Arkansas and Kansas State and former wife of Kenny Mossman, OU's senior associate athletics director for external operations.

Mossman was considered by Texas Tech to become their head coach before they hired Candi Whitaker, a former Tech player. Whitaker was previously at OSU as well as the head coach at the University of Missouri-Kansas City before that. I personally think Tech may have made a mistake by not hiring Mossman but, time will tell.

One (me, specifically) has to wonder if there will ever be an opening at OU WBB for anyone that has not been a player or an assistant in high school or a recycled college assistant to SC. Nothing is wrong with that if your coaching team is consistently improving with wins, recruiting, championships and academic success.

One (me, specifically) also has to wonder why the one coach that had success with directly and indirectly recruiting top 25 recruits to OU is no longer there (Hansmeyer) and replaced with DeCosta. Yes, OU needs to have cultural diversity within it's camp, but not at the expense of ability and productivity. Hansmeyer, supposedly finished/closed the deal to sign the Paris twins (after Bo Overton left...Erica Arriaran was recruited by him and got the twins interested in OU, then EA bowed out after BO left) that ultimately led to the signing of AO and DR. There were other top 25's (high school recruits and at least one potential transfer) that came through to visit OU and/or had them on their interest list, but never, unfortunately, signed them. There probably will not be any change to the type of assistant on the WBB staff unless Castilgione leaves and another AD wants his/her own folks. It probably would not affect FB because of the bottom line; $$$$$$$ !!! FB still fills the stadium. WBB...the LNC looks like a ghost town and season ticket sales have decreased significantly. The days of nationally televised games are gone.

Just a little data for thought...

Women's basketball assistants Jan Ross and Chad Thrailkill also received $10,000 bumps, and another Coale assistant, Pam DeCosta, got a $15,000 raise, lifting their annual salaries to $196,400, $143,600 and $133,000, respectively.

Gasso, who has coached the OU softball team for 19 seasons, received an increase from $215,000 to $350,000 per year.

OU has won two softball national championships under Gasso. The first came in 2000, and her second came earlier this month after a clean sweep through postseason play.

The regents also approved a $65,000 bonus for Gasso if she wins a third national championship.

Gasso's assistants were also rewarded handsomely by the regents. Melyssa Lombardi received a $33,960 increase for a $120,000 annual salary, and Tripp Mackay got a $31,760 raise and will earn $100,000 annually.

Baylor's Kim Mulkey, who on Tuesday won her second NCAA championship for the Lady Bears, made $1.12 million, according to the latest contract figures available. She was one of five coaches nationally to earn more than $1 million this season. Goestenkors, who was set to earn $1.072 million, also was one of the five. Tennessee's Pat Summitt's $2.028 million led the nation.

Oklahoma's Sherri Coale's salary was $948,000 and Texas A&M's Gary Blair's pay was $828,000. Texas Tech's Kristy Curry signed a new contract for this year that called for her to make $650,000.

Just food for thought when thinking of recruiting and results. Let's hope the OU WBB "family atmosphere" can collaborate and land/sign some top 1-10's for 2014-2017. Just saying!

Pam has really helped OU get in on some of the top talent in the state of Florida. And she was at the AAU championship game this summer witch Dungees team won, so she's keeping an open relationship with her.

Mac, "get in on some of the top talent" and actually signing them to a LOI is a nice distance. Lot's of coaches were at the AAU championship game this summer. Successful recruiting requires more than going to AAU games...lots more! Let's hope there is some improvement.
