2019 target Kevin McCullar to enroll early

Seems like if he doesn't choose soon OU will probably be out. Who all has an immediate offer? Reeves, McCullar, Kennedy, & it feels like 1 more.

I'd rather wait it out if we have a realistic shot.

I honestly have a problem with this... What about his HS teammates...? I get getting ready for college and all but this is unique, to say the least.

Do we know for sure that when he enrolls, he's going to red shirt during the spring semester? What if his plan is to play during the spring? If that's the case, the team loses about a third of a season from him (though that's the least important third of the season) and he's going to struggle adjusting to the college game. Though DeSousa eventually came around to playing some good ball for KU this season, he really only played a few decent games.

I guess we have to take him at his word. He's quoted in the article from the OP that he will redshirt the spring semester.

it is not the players desision to redshirt or not ..

If McCullar says that's what he wants to do and makes it a condition of enrolling at the university, that's what will happen. If he says I won't come if I have to redshirt, the team won't redshirt him.

I did not read the article but apparently it says that that's his plan so presumably he will have worked that out with the coaching staff before he shows up on campus.

The article says all 9 schools have agreed to him redshirting. He’s basically redshirting his senior year of HS and using it to become acclimated to D1 practices and school. Would come in with Harmon et al. He would just have a semester of school behind him when the others arrive in the summer of 2019.

It bothers me a little bit that he won’t have to sign a LOI, so nothing binds him until he attends his first day of class in 2019. On the other hand, I don’t have any idea if OU could get his commitment. We’re just 1 of 9 schools he’s interested in. That’s just an 11% chance. I guess he will take a bunch of visits this summer.

I’m guessing they would take Reaves over McCullar instead of gambling on those odds.

If it's 11%, I'd definitely take Reaves if he wants OU.

The great thing with this is its the 13th ship. If you find the right guy to be starter worthy for the 19/20 season then use it, otherwise have it open for fall signings. There might be a juco to pursue early if Lon wants a more seasoned guard for 19/20.

So are we now out on McCullar since we just gave out our 13th Scholarship?

Did he commit to Texas Tech? 247Sport’s Crystal Ball has him a virtual lock at 100% to the Red Raiders.
