2025 - 2026 Coaching Carousel

No he just hires his target candidate and then lets the program whither away into mediocrity because his apathy.

Didn’t stand up or fight for Kelvin, did nothing to help capitalize on the momentum Buddy built, let LK struggle till his retirement, and the last 5 years are well documented.

But you’re right, at least he doesn’t embarrass himself in public with messy coaching searches.
I used to be a bigger fan of Joe C prior to NIL. I certainly wouldn't argue with anyone who felt he let down the basketball fans. I was just pointing out that his coaching searches were private so we really never knew who his primary targets were when replacing Sampson, Capel or Kruger. Somehow, though, Geno Auriemma's name did surface as Kelvin's replacement.

Who else did we consider when we hired Capel? I was looking at his 4 years at VCU and I had remembered his time there very differently than it was apparently. Aka it didn't look like a good hire
Seems like Terry Evans lobbied for the job hard, but I don’t think he was ever a serious candidate. I really liked him as a coach. Always wondered how he would have done.

I'm surprised the St. Louis coach is staying without even exploring other deals. He is 51 years old, so if he wanted to go out and have a chance at coaching in a power conference, I would have thought now would have been the time.

Gerry McNamara is a name to watch. I liked him as a player and just have a feeling he might turn into a decent coach. Not sure about his fit at OU (I like guys that have spent some amount of time in the South/Midwest), but it'll be interesting to follow his career.

From what I've read, St Louis sweetened his deal. Schertz believes he can get a better job next year than what is currently available.

He’d be an improvement over many high major coaches, including some in the SEC.
Hes prolly the worst coach in the SEC with the possible exception of LSU's, south Carolina's, and Auburn's (who was tricked into hiring a nepo baby)

Steven Pearl says hello. Chris Janz is very blah, and so are Paris and Mike White.

Sean Miller, given the resources he’s had at Arizona and Texas, is very underwhelming.

Added to my post. Agreed on Paris and pearl

Would take janz over porter (he used to be his assistant ironically), def Mike white over pm, and id also take Miller over pm.

It's a little different because college athletics is Mike White's family business, but when he was getting pushed out of Florida, he was able to parachute to Georgia.

Porter isn't so lucky to have a place to parachute to. At least not yet.

But yes, I'd take all three of those coaches over Porter.
