2025 - 2026 Coaching Carousel

I'm old enough to remember when they fired Ted Owens and hired Larry Brown. After Larry got them put on probation and left, they hired an unknown Roy Williams on Dean Smith's recommendation. When Roy went to Carolina, they hired Bill Self.

They've hit on 3 coaches in a row stretching over the last 40+ years.
Hit on 3 coaches? Kansas has had 8 total basketball coaches in 128 years of their existence. I’d say they’ve done far better than just hitting on 3 coaches.

If somehow Kelvin goes to KU I vote we never mention him every again on this board. Luckily his kid will prolly help stop that. Kelvin should be on every openings list. Why wouldn't he be?
Age. No blue blood would hire a guy who has at most a few years left. And I don’t think Kelvin has shown any indication he is interested in other jobs. Izzo never is on any lists, either.

Kelvin is 70. He may want to coach a few more years at most before retiring.

He got fired for cheating.

He is a POS and thank goodness ou didn’t hire him. He would have bolted the first chance he got.
Yes.

What he did at LSU is now legal because it involved paying players. His donor buddies at LSU that helped him are bringing him back. In addition, the president and AD of McNeese, who gave him a chance to coach again, are now at LSU.

And his value is significantly diminished now that everyone can pay players. I don’t think Lsu is going to be getting a good return on their investment here.

Actually, no, what Will Wade did is NOT legal now.

Wade lied and denied to his administration and legal authorities that he ever cheated and offered money to a player. Then the FBI wiretaps came out in the open.

Lying and trying to cover up/hide something wrong is never legal regardless of the implementation of NIL.

He is a POS and NIL didn't change that.

I forgot that the FBI was involved. I just remember the "***tons of cash" or whatever that quote was.

Let LSU have him. Lane Kiffin, Kim Mulkey, and Will Wade all in the same athletic department. Good luck managing that circus.

Between Wade, Kiffin, and Mulkey - LSU admin has to be the most shameless in all of college sports.
Add Jay Johnson from baseball to the mix and their coaches are making more than the GDP of half the world's countries.

And with that kind of compensation, you know there is an attitude from the admin and BMDs to win at all costs at all means and methods necessary.

The history of shenanigans at LSU proves it.

The miss was Dick Harp, who came after Phog. He didn't win the Big 8 during Wilt Chamberlain's junior year.
