2025 - 2026 Coaching Carousel

This is who OU should hire to replace Porter. One of the best basketball minds at any level.
He can probably raise NIL money, too. He has to have connections in Hollywood via his dad.

BC has very little NIL. He probably agreed to bring some $ along to get the job.

Hollywood? That’s a stretch. Asking his dad’s friends for nil for BC basketball?

Come on man

REALLY starting to look like we should have hired Ben McCollum. Last year, obviously.

I know he is from that area, but I think we're a more attractive bball school than Iowa.

People ask what kind of coach we need. There are examples all over. Iowa. Utah State. St. Louis.

Small to Zero chance we are more attractive hoops job than Iowa.

What makes us attractive? Support, Facilities, money, location, hoops school?

I don't know.....

More all-time wins and a better all-time winning percentage.
More all-time appearances in the NCAA Tournament.
More NCAA Tournament wins and a better NCAA Tournament winning percentage.
Three Final Four appearances since their (Iowa) last one.
The OU brand is bigger than the Iowa brand.
Bigger names sent to the NBA over the last two decades or so.

I don't know a ton about their basketball facilities, but a quick search would indicate if they aren't worse off than OU, they are our equal at best.

Until Moser was hired, OU was miles ahead of Iowa, by the way.
I would argue the conditions that make OU an unattractive job or not as attractive job today existed before Moser was hired, and goes back to Lon Kruger days. And we had good candidates not interested in the job when LK was hired.

Poor and/or outdated facilities, huge lack of support from admin, little or no marketing/promotion of OU hoops, less budget compared to conference foes, underwhelming corporate/community support, and finicky/inconsistent fan support and student engagement. These have all existed for at least 8 or so years. Throw in the issues with competitive or upper-half NIL funding, and not much about the job on this date makes it attractive. Which, IMO, certainly influenced Denny's decision.

Our history and brand may be great to talk about, but those aren't influencing top recruits or top coaching candidates to OU, if they can't sell them due to the other factors.

Of course, Moser hasn't helped any of those issues with the overall record on the court. But the foundational issues have existed for a while and may factor into who is interested in the job.

Kids don’t care about history unless it’s a blue blood. All time wins, appearances etc

Iowa supports basketball. Ou fans and school haven’t for a long time. Even before Moser.

since TY was named imaginary gm… what’s he done for us?
How much is Blake or buddy helping out?

For sure. Iowa supports basketball far more quick Google search confirms that.

More consistent at Iowa. Ou volatile.

When things are good we have fans for big games. When we aren’t top 25. We have 4k.

Iowa has 12k every night.

Sure you can money whip folks.

Let me say this clearly.

I’d love to have Ben McCollum until the day he retires!!
