2025 - 2026 Coaching Carousel

It’s it just about HC salary.

There is far more to support than HC salary.

then spell it out for me. i've asked a couple times.
hc/staff salary
nil
?
how does iowa support mens basketball better than ou....besides fan support.
altho i'd argue ou fans show up when we have a coach who can win games.

We are better than Iowa. We can and have always done much better than Iowa. They haven’t really done anything in 30+ years. They lost 12 games this year and now they made a run to the elite 8. Good for them. To act like they’re so much better is ignorant. Despite our recent troubles, we are still a better job and program than Iowa.

Ben McCollum is an Iowa fan from Iowa. There are pictures of him in Iowa gear with the last Iowa sweet 16 coach some 30+ years ago. If given the choice between the 2 programs, he is going to Iowa.

Historically ou is the better job. And history doesn’t mean much in the NIL era. See Syracuse-hodgson situation. It is probably close to a wash in the NIL era.

Ben make $500k more
iowa gym is better and filled all the time, not just fan weather fans
ou pays better for Assts.

practice gym about the same, S&C about the same. budgets the same.

would you rather have consistency or up and down swings we've had?

just wanted you to answer the question.
you said iowa supports mens basketball...implying much better support than ou.
that is incorrect.....except potentially fan support.
i don't think mccollum makes $500k more than pm this year. he made $3.35 mil last season.
he's the 14th highest paid coach in the big 10

McCollum makes $3.8 million per year per ChatGPT (6 yrs/22.75 million). So he makes roughly $500k more than moser. Iowa fans are way better basketball fans than ou. It’s not very close either. Ou basketball fans are arguably the worst in the country relative to the success of the program.

Up and down? We made the tournament more consistently than any program other than a few bluebloods for about 36 years. Even if you want to ignore Tubbs and just start when Kelvin was hired, we missed the tourney 6 times in 27 years before Moser was hired-- and three of the misses were under Capel. Over the same timeframe, Iowa has missed the tourney more often than they have made it. Before last night, they had made one Elite 8 in the past 38 years. Every OU coach in the last 40 years made it at least that far (some more than once) and three took us to FFs . . . until Moser.

And their gym was most certainly not always full in recent years.

Again, would he have chosen us over Drake?

Kids don’t care about history unless it’s a blue blood. All time wins, appearances etc

Iowa supports basketball. Ou fans and school haven’t for a long time. Even before Moser.

since TY was named imaginary gm… what’s he done for us?
How much is Blake or buddy helping out?
Get Moser out of the way and we'll see how much those names might help.

Same with fan support. It's not great, historically, but it's not bad when the team is good. Moser has had pockets of game with great support. He's just normally crapped the bed which has made it tough for that support to build/grow.

prior to moser OU historically has NEVER had an issue selling Bball tickets .. which might be the single biggest reason i am shocked that he still has his job

but would he have stayed at OU when Iowa came calling?
Who knows? And I sure as heck hope that two years ago, after three years of failure by Moser, we didn't hold off on firing him and looking for a better coach because there was a chance that said coach would eventually leave for another job. We have never had a problem keeping coaches. Billy, Kelvin, and Lon all stayed for a decade or longer. Capel stayed till he was fired. If Ben had come here and had success right away (which he has shown to be the likely outcome), I think he would have thought long and hard about leaving. Very few coaches simply take a job because they grew up a fan of a team. That's not how things work.

We will never know. Aside from mortgaging the future with a massive buyout of Moser’s contract, I think Ou would have had trouble bringing in a good coach at a good gig if they had got rid of Moser after just 3 years.

Maybe bc their careers are almost finished. Blake has taken off again with TV.

TY likely will when hes done. I bet he moves back.

that is not a thing

as has been repeatedly said on this site .. (and it has never been a thing)
Well then there are multiple folks spreading that.

I believe you. But for years people buy and don’t show up. From Kelvin to moser.

Seems like a waste of money
