2025 - 2026 Coaching Carousel

UNC just lost out on Tommy Lloyd as he signs an extension to remain at Arizona, and will be taking less money to stay..Blue Blood status becoming less of a sure seller these days.
Bc the expectations arent worth leaving a place that is already a blueblood that is thankful for what you've done and then you can checkmate them into a massive longterm contract too

Dusty May is a dang good coach. He’s just wins. He’s a winner everywhere he goes.

The Athletic is reporting that Billy Donovan seems to be UNC's clear top choice now that May and Lloyd are officially out. But they also note that he is at least open to other NBA jobs.

If he decides not to go to UNC, they said it will likely take a while for them to make a decision because all the other candidates either have questions or would be unlikely to take the job. One interesting tidbit -- they said that McCollum would probably not be interested because he is a Midwest guy, and that if he were to leave Iowa for a blue blood, he would likely wait till Self retires and go for the KU job.

he is a very very very good coach ..
Very interesting, wonder if they wanted him over Donovan or just didn’t want to wait on Billy.

Always interesting to see how guys do going from pro to college or vice versa. He obviously hasn’t had to deal with having his entire roster be free agents on an annual basis, but like you said, there is no questioning his actual coaching. I guess that ends our dream of a college coach taking the job and creating a chain reaction.

I still don't understand why the nuggets let him go
He lost the locker room. But on paper, a good hire. NBA and college basketball are basically the same from a schematic and strategy standpoint. College teams are all running pro schemes.

May and Lloyd top 2 but Malone on paper better than those guys or just as good
It's a risky hire. His style may work in the college game or could end up a really bad hire. If North Carolina builds a staff around him to help, could be an outstanding hire.

Porter isn't getting all the results we want, but happy he at least runs an NBA system on offense.
