Dylan Mingo jumped to No. 4 in Rivals’ most recent 2026 ranking update. The 6-foot-4 point guard is entering his senior season at Long Island (NY) Lutheran and played this summer with the PSA Cardinals program on the Nike EYBL Circuit.
“I would say a point guard that could really defend,” Mingo told
Rivals. “I’m a bigger guard that can pass the ball, shoot it, get to the basket and playmake. I do watch Shai (Gilgeous-Alexander), just the way he uses his body and the way how slithery he is, I watch that a lot.”
On3 was able to catch up with four-star
Dylan Mingo recently to discuss the latest with his recruitment.
I haven’t taken any visits yet,” Mingo said. “I’ll probably visit Washington, Virginia, Baylor, UConn, Miami, NC State, UNC, Oklahoma, and Alabama.”
Mingo discusses UConn, NC State, UNC & Alabama
UCONN: “Just them being a winning program. As much as they win, I mean, they had a rough year this year. But they’re saying they’re going to be back to national championship level this year. So, just seeing how that goes is pretty crazy.”
NC STATE: “I speak to them consistently and pretty much the same thing. Them trusting me with the ball in my hands means a lot.
Coach (Will) Wade is a really great coach, a really great coach and he’s a winner.”
UNC: “
Hubert Davis, he reaches out a lot. So, just seeing him reach out a lot, as Hubert Davis, the head coach from UNC, means a lot, and is very important. I mean, and I’m seeing a lot of people from New York shows how much they value New York guys and New York players. I mean, that doesn’t really have to do with anything of me committing, but that’s impressive how many New York players they’ve gotten.”
ALABAMA: “What stands out with them is pretty much the way they let their guards play. The way they let their guards rock out, and that they’re a guard-driven team.”
Dylan Mingo breaks down Washington, Virginia, Miami, Oklahoma & Baylor
WASHINGTON: “Really, what is sticking out is just how much they value me as a player. I mean, we had a Zoom meeting with them, so seeing how much they value me to come to their program means a lot.”
VIRGINIA: “Really, I’m just trusting in their new coaching staff and what they did at VCU. So, just being able to trust in that and just them having a lot of trust in me is important.
Coach (Ryan) Odom has been a consistent winner. And he had a guard that went to the league, so that’s impressive at VCU.”
BAYLOR: “They’ve had a lot of good guards. They had
VJ (Edgecombe) last year. They have a bunch of freshman guards that play. And that’s really important to me in my recruitment. So, seeing that freshman guards going to the league consistently year after year is very important. [*
Edgecombe and Mingo are former high school teammates] He told me he loved it at Baylor, he said it was amazing.
OKLAHOMA: “The way they let
Jeremiah Fears play with a bunch of older players to make him look even better. And even just the SEC conference, you play against the best of the best every day. So, there’s no doubt about your competition as you’re playing.
MIAMI: “The fact that how much they value me and the fact that they wanted to put the ball in my hands as a freshman. That means a lot.”
In his words
”I’ll probably take anywhere between five to eight visits,” Mingo said. “I’ll probably bring going on them anywhere from after Peach Jam to probably November, or December. If it goes well, I’ll most likely commit before my season.
“I want to play for a coach that values me a lot,” Mingo said. Well, not even just the coach, the whole program. I want to have a strong relationship with the coaches, especially the head coach, and the whole coaching staff. And a winning program. I’d like to compete for a championship, and also a program that’s willing to play a freshman.”
