2026 Transfer portal

Just read an article from another site, it stated we are going to hear pretty soon that L Smith is signing with Oklahoma. Said the staff may also try to find another point guard in the portal.

I liked the roster anyway, but I would think with Smith (if true) and Momodu, we should be improved next year for sure. Totally agree we need to find a good experienced point guard if possible. Would let us play Chavez off the ball some and give us another ball handler.

Everything matters and contributes to success or failure, but IMO the most important area we need to improve in is our 3 point shooting.
What site? I can't find anything about this.

We are getting stronger in the middle with Stewart, Bell and now Momodu. All are mobile and have good scoring ability. Agree that Chavez would be better off point. Also agree that we need better 3 point shooting. I think some of that was shot selection. I liked Verhulst overall game but she thrw up 3 pointers like she thought she was Caitlyn Clark. Think both Bell and Momodu will be better inside defenders than Beers, who I loved.

Yes as much as I loved Verhultz, she was so hot/and (mostly) cold on the 3s. Some were 6 feet behind the line or more

On the 3 point shooting issue, I think it is a combination of a lot of factors. Shot selection, personnel decisions, kids staying within their well established skill set relating to shooting, and perhaps other issues. You can "run and gun" without giving every player on the team an equal right to shoot any shot they want to shoot regardless of their shooting percentage on that shot. The fact that a player can hit a 3, doesn't mean she should be shooting them if her game shooting percentage from the 3 point line is poor. No time left and they have the ball, sure, fire it up as an alternative to a turnover due to shot clock violation. Some girls can shoot an adequate percentage when squared up from the 3 point line, but have a terrible percentage on 3s when on the move. Some are good from the line, but not from even a few feet further out. A coach has an entire off season to gain an understanding of what each players skill set is related to shooting and then, until and unless they plainly demonstrate improvement, limit them to shots they have proven to make a good percentage of. Giving everyone the right to play like they are at the YMCA and use games that count to work on their shooting will cost you against good teams.

Most NBA teams use what I think they call the Boston Celtic drill when evaluating their players and potential players. 100 shots from the different points around the 3 point line in rapid succession, all in a catch and shoot format. Then, they just total up the makes. Your not being guarded, and so if you can't hit a certain number (I think 80 or more if I remember right), you aren't a 3 point shooter under normal game conditions. If you do the drill enough to prove being able to hit the 3 from a given spot, then you only are allowed to shoot the 3 from that spot. If you want greater freedom to expand your right to shoot, you earn it in the drill in practice and not in the game.

Heard Billy Tubbs discuss this issue many times. Get your players to buy in to being really good at doing what they do really well. Work tirelessly on the shots you are going to be shooting in the games. Waymon used to spend his entire pregame warmup shooting a gillion little turnarounds and then he wore you out with it during the games. Could do them blindfolded I bet.

When Nagy was hired, I read an article that said the General Manager would communicate to recruits/portal players about NIL. If what Nagy can offer is agreeable to the player, official visits will be set up. This will keep the coach from wasting their time on a player that wants way more than what we are willing to pay. I assume it would work the same way with basketball.

Good stuff. You want the green light, prove it. All of them need to be shooting in their sleep.

Exactly…

That was/is my biggest issue …concern… What ever ya want to can it.

Seems to me everyone had the green light to launch 3’s… hopefully that will change.

OSU just added Baylor transfer Yuting Deng.

As a freshman at Auburn, the 6’2” guard was named to the 2025 SEC All-Freshman team while averaging 11.8 points per game on 36.5% shooting from three.

I wanted her real bad. I would have NEVER thought in a Million years how poor Oklahoma State is making Oklahoma WBB program look. Its actually embarrassing atp. Jennie aint doing enough talking to donors for me. Too worried about giving Aaliyah more money and trying to please her aint gonna help you build a team to win a national championship unfortunately.

They had a clean slate to work with. We already had roster costing a significant amount. I much prefer to build a team around HS recruits and retention than throwing money at the portal and hoping the team gels.

BS

I agree. However… Why is it hard to get what we REALLY need? Thats what is not making sense to me.

BS to you. If its BS then why do we not have a True big yet then? Explain that since its BS… yes we needed guards but more than anything we NEEDED a BIG and we have YET to get that. Momodu is only 6’1 or 6’2 at max. When I say a Big I mean a 6’4 or Taller. With that being said I truly believe Jennie and Markisha are banking on Stewie to be our post with Leelee behind her.

I think Spieser is a better option than Deng. They are almost exactly the same player. Except I believe Spieser is better. I think this next season at OSU will be the biggest test of hoyts tenure there, thus far. What can she do with the talent she finally has? Will they be a team that underachieves or will they be a top 10 contender??

I'm really hoping we land Smith she would give us some veteran, quality depth with height that can play multiple positions. If we land her I believe she will be our last portal addition. 🤞

Speiser is Good. Idk about better then Deng. If you watch Deng you know Speiser is not better than Deng. Deng can MOVE something Speiser struggles to do and will probably struggle big time in the SEC. Hopefully Speiser proves me wrong but she struggled in the Big12 to move her feets. SEC is a MAJOR jump of Athletes.

I watched both players play and Deng probably is the better athlete and probably has more potential but she's wildly inconsistent and barely got substantial minutes at a mediocre Baylor team. Spieser, a former McDonald's all-american, was a freshman last year and averaged 10 PPG and was a great shot from 3pr. I think she is probably the more consistent, reliable option despite her shortcomings. We will see.

Mind you Deng in her Freshman year in the SEC she averaged 11pts a game at Auburn. I don’t really see much of a difference tbh. Deng did well in the SEC while she was in the SEC in her freshman year. Deng has good ball handling skill something I personally think Speiser lacks. Im hoping Speiser does well for us in the SEC this next season. I hope all the transfers we got do well for us because we need it badly since Jennie seem to not be able to recruit true bigs for some reason.

They’re going to jump on you for this. Even say you’re throwing digs at her, when it has nothing to do with her. You’re not allowed to speak on what you know in here.
