#6 OU vs #3 UCLA 9:30pm 11/10

Kneepkins was the difference that half…great shooter. But we survived the foul trouble with Beers and Chavez to still be close. They had 9 offensive boards and outrebounded us 31-20. But only 4 turnovers for us that half. Zya was great that half..her best half as a Sooner. Make a few more shots and do better on the boards and we have a good chance to pull the upset.

Man Chavez has struggled to score to start the season. Didn’t expect that. I figured offense would be easy for her. Been impressed by her defense.

Chavez seems to be pretty overrated. She don’t particularly quick and can’t shoot
You don’t average 35 points your entire high school career without being able to shoot. She just hasn’t adjusted as quickly to the college game like I thought she would

Chavez has the keys to the car. Jennie trusts her. She’s getting good shots and they aren’t falling. Hopefully they start falling soon.

Agreed that we have no depth. Both Belmont and UCLA have gone on runs when we start subbing. Seems like Jennie is intentionally throwing the freshmen into the fire hoping they’ll turn into quality depth as the season goes on.

Beers is 5-15 from the FT line so far this season. That HAS to improve.

Well I figured we would lose by over double digits and that's exactly what we lost by, 13. This usually team doesn't surprise me unless they lose a game that they shouldn't lose. Otherwise I think it's pretty guaranteed that JB just doesn't have the formula to be top 3 teams. sometimes I don't even think our girls believe it.

OU has not started out great the previous two seasons. It seems to take them some time to gel. I will go with Jennie and these young women. My only complaint is the free throwing shooting but I had that last year too. Not sure what has happened. Now Beers was a good free throw shooters last year. Anyway, it has to get better for them to make a deep run.

I was afraid we would not be able to keep up with them at all. I feel more hopeful than I have felt since the team was finalized.

Correction: Beers was 70 percent free throw last year.....I thought she was better. She shot a lot more than the other players.

Chavez hasn’t gotten comfortable shooting in college yet…that will come. Our next 5 games are against lower level D1 teams so should be a chance for Aaliyah and the other inexperienced players to play and adjust to playing vs better athletes.

Here is a positive stat…through 2 games Chavez has played 69 minutes and has 2 turnovers. I do think she has already improved us in taking care of the basketball.

News flash!!! Only GAME 2 of the season!!! UCLA was a Final 4 team, 3/4 of their team are seniors/grads, and they are ranked 3rd in the nation. Over half of OUr team are freshman/sophomores! Taker a Zanax!!! SMH!

Stats did not display all game. I tried to pull them for a football game a few weeks ago nothing there in the second quarter or so. Disappointing. Same thing with some big ten volleyball games. Universities need to find a new stat provider.

Vann and Verhulst needed the ball in their hands tonight. You play through the ones who are winning you the game. We didn’t do that tonight respectfully.

These stats?

Thoughts on the game:

Zya is a good 5th starter. Loved big sis and zya has the same toughness both physically and mentally. Vann thing i guess

the ceiling is so different with chavez. Didn’t play great last night. But i see what makes her special, i.e. when she plays everyone else on the team is better

All the freshman look like good players.

Lastly didn’t think the officiating was biased, but completely incompetent. The quality of officiating in the girls game is absurd. Particularly for a game of this magnitude.

Ucla is good but slow. Properly officiated they have flaws

Actually better than I expected. UCLA is always best early in the season and we are usually best around Feb 1. Lack of depth is definitly a problem. I know that many agonize with the key players playing under 30 minutes but that is why we pull so many games out in the last quarter. Our players in the past have usually had fresher legs in the 4th quarter. I am incouraged that we played with them for 3 quarters. But the legs weren't there the 4th quarter and our offense suffered, defense too.

I am not concerned about Beers free shooting. She is not a great free throw shooter but better than she has been these first two games. Not concerned with Chaves shooting either. Right now she is shooting not to miss. Once she gets more comfortable with the college level game those open shots will fall 40-50 percent. Thought Stewart looked pretty good in her brief time. Lofton seems to be almost invisable when she is in the game. I think she will eventually be a solid backup.

The most encouraging thing to me was the number of good open shots that didn't fall. If we get shose shots to fall in February we will be a force to reckon with.

Well, as said,I thought she was better last year than she was but she shot the team Ave and shot a ton more free shots than anyone else. I wish she would get it up to 75 percent.......but definitely has to improve over the first two games...the entire team does. And they need to improve from last year but I believe they will. Early times, a lot of new players and a couple of tough games.......I mean Belmont wasn't UCLA but they were tough.

I agree it is early times and I expect us to do better. Not discouraged at all, excited to see how far we can go.
