7-foot Manyang still hobbled [Daily Oklahoman]

After reading the article, I'm really eager to see McNease and Buford and the progress of Latin. As for AK, we probably don't need him whether he's healthy or not. We have 4 post players without him and he's not taking any minutes from Spangler. He's just a player I've never had high hopes for and until I see him actually play in a game, that won't change.

I agree, except Manyang as a long, athletic 7 footer could give us a paint protector, someone who can block and change shots, the other players may not be able to match.
Will we be fine with Spangler, Lattin, McNeace and Buford if he's unable to contribute this season? Absolutely. For the most part, I will be disappointed for AK if he can't go, and in the fact that he had the potential to bring a unique skill set to the floor OU fans haven't seen in years.

I don't put near as much stock in his potential as others around here. If he were a skilled seven-footer with rim protecting abilities he wouldn't have been slumming it at a JUCO.
In my eyes he's a project, a flyer, and if he can contribute five fouls a game then that's great. And if not, no big deal.
Now he's got a busted foot. So I'd sit him for the year.

Just like a recruit we miss on.... He's garbage all the sudden. Kruger isnt taking junk...

Hopefully Bolden will make his decision sooner than later. If we luck out and get Bolden, theres no reason to sit him. He won't play if Bolden comes here.
Kruger isn't taking junk? You act like every player he brings here is an all-american. The high school kids and transfers is what is working for us...The juco's have been nothing to brag about yet.

I don't get the people saying Manyang wouldn't have an impact - he has legit size and athleticism that we haven't had here in a long long time. Can anybody even rememeber the last time we had a rim protector ? I don't care if he was only going to play 10 minutes a night they would have been impactful, guys that size with that type of athleticism are rare.
Its hard to protect the rim from the bench. 10 minutes a game would be pushing it quite a bit. McNease and Lattin are ahead of him. lattin is going to get at least 20 minutes if not more. McNease is going to get 10 minutes. And Buford might get 20 minutes(maybe not all in the post).
Theres a reason why the 6'7 Buford, 6'10 McNease, and the 6'9 Lattin all got scholarship offers out of high school and the 7'0 footer went to juco.

I know you're painting with a broad brush, because to call me fairweather is a bit of a hoot, but my skepticism in regards to Manyang has been very consistent. Anything beyond five fouls out of him I consider a bonus, and I've felt that way since he left his JUCO team before last season concluded.

Let him get healthy and in shape and he'll surprise a lot of folks.

Sure. Jucos are instant impact all the time but a legit sought after 7ft center is impactful. Sure you guys hate Cole, hate manyang, hate walker... Wood can't do this or that...
Coach Kruger knows what he wants and gets it. All serve a purpose. We'll see I trust Kruger, we are ranked #8 and are trending upward.
