#9 OU vs #26 NC State 6pm 12/3

man, we better play solid tonight, or we could lose. I think we have the better offensive team, but if we don't play great defense they have some good scorers, and you just never know. They're a team that's struggled and will want to make a statement. I hope our girls do the same tonight!

Already we are giving them way too much space to get shots off. Brooks has already scored several times. They have some really good guards that can take you one-on-one and create if you don't guard well and it's already happening. I understand we want to play fast but why do we feel like we need to shoot the ball within 2 seconds of crossing half court so often?

Why is beers shooting 15’ jump shots…?…
Chavez … running and throwing up crap.

It’s the typical offense… shoot enough shots ya might win some games, definitely against crappy teams. Won’t work against quality opponents.

This is who Jenny is… and will always be.

We're really struggling to defend in the paint. NC State is fearless in driving to the basket.
It seems to me that Reagan's game has been a little off recently?

Reagan missed some shots she usually makes, but she was often double-teamed by players 6'5" and 6'6" and ended up with 21 points. Peyton's shots weren't falling but she had some great defensive plays. We missed too many free throws, but cleaned that up late in the game. Chavez was great offensively and good on defense. I loved it when the NC State coach had to resort to double-teaming her all over the floor. Sahara was tough. She missed some early free throws but cleaned that up late in the game. She should have gone to the free-throw line even more. Zaya was a pest on defense and scored 12 points.

The officiating was pretty bad. Sometimes they let them play like it was a playground game. Other times, they called touch fouls.

Box Score:

I thought for the 1st 3 quarters we didn’t play with enough intensity or aggression and you could see that on defense and on the boards. Then in the 4th quarter and OT we finally realized we were about to lose and upped our game…played better defense in particular.

Chavez is as advertised…yes she chucks up some ill advised shot occasionally but she is still figuring out college ball. And at least she is aggressive and brave on offense. Would not surprise me for her to have a 40 point game this year. Only 9 turnovers today…Chavez and Vann have really improved our ball handling.

Payton does so many things well and we need her on the court as much as possible but I was disappointed she didn’t assert herself on offense more. Sahara as usual plays super hard the entire time she is on the court. Beers eventually wore down the inside players on NC State.

I thought Stewart gave us good minutes off the bench but otherwise the bench didn’t do much. Need a guard off the bench to improve and be ready to play at this level.

We are not a top ten team, at least not now. We may become one but we were really exposed tonight. Seriously outrebounded and never had any control over the game until very late in the game. No depth tonight. Only 36 minutes, 8 points and 7 rebounds off the bench. Stewart looked good but was the victum of some bad officiating.

No flow to the offense. Very one on one. Only 14 assists from what is normally a good passing team. Think Chavez needs to pass more and shoot less. Can't have her throwing up 11 treys and missing 8. And she is dominating the ball so much that the other players are not involved in the offense. It looked like for awhile that everyone else was rushing to put up a shot because they knew Chavez would shoot if she gets the ball. Similar to the Trey Young effect on the men's team his only year at OU. Verhulst particularly seems to be having difficulty getting involved in the offense because of Chavez dominating the ball.

Now, after criticizing Chavez I have to say she is an elite talent. Her quickness and jumping ability allows her to get off a shot no matter what. I think she has a superb mid and short range game and with more use of that she could contribut more to the offense. Baranczyk has to develop a more efficient offense and the addition of Beers and Chavez has made that more difficult. We used to be a offense with everyone moving and a lot of good passing reslting in a lot of assists. Tonight only 14 assists out of 41 baskets.

NC State is not ranked but I think they are a top 25 team and probably better. They have a very good coach. We also have a very good coach. You may not like her style of play but she always has improved the team a lot during the year and I expect her to do so this year.

Final thought, I thought the officiating was very poor on both sides.

Agree with what others are saying. Have to figure out a way to play more as a team. They will lose if not. They needed defense tonight and they were sitting on the bench. Smith and Lofton came in again and their presence immediately helped on that side. Lofton had 4 minutes with a steal, 4 pts if they beat the buzzer and good pressure. I don’t understand her sitting the rest of the game. I’m not the coach though, but the defense was very poor majority of the game. I’m putting players in who want to stop them, but if Jennie doesn’t care about defense, I guess we fans have to live with close games. It looked like their was a decent crowd there.,

Spot on!

Here are my thoughts after tonight’s game.

Our offense still looks stagnant at times. But I think a LOT that has to do with Payton Verhulst is not shooting as much she use to last year, not even close. I would have LOVED to see her shoot a lot more tonight, there were a few times she was open and she didn’t shoot the ball… Like Payton?? I know it will come so im not worried. Yes Payton does a LOT of good things for us even she doesn’t score the ball which is good impressive about her.

Sahara just continues to be good on both sides of the ball. I am loving the improvement to her, strong, aggressive and isn’t letting no one bully her, a bit undersize at the 4 but Id die to have a blue collar athlete and attitude like her on my team Any day of the week.

Beers will be ok, im not disappointed in her effort she tried and thats all that matters. Also I need her to start making her jump shots that she use to make consistently last season.

Zya is just a damn hustler on defense and getting her to shoot her midrange game will help her and this team a LOT.

Aaliyah was putting on a show on tonight, she honestly could have had 40pts tonight if she wanted too, I thought on some plays she was waay too unselfish AND too open to had not taken some shots but she played extremely well tonight REGARDLESS.
She is only going to get better. Oh & I will say Aaliyah has improved a LOT on her defense I must say as well.

Brooklyn Stewart… Can we please give her some spotlight?? That girl is going to be GOOD for us, and she is only getting better the more games she plays.
I thought she did phenomenal tonight against NC State on both sides of the ball. She held her own against both Tilda Trygger and Khamil Pierre. And Ima bring this up again, she was once again guarding a small guard and I guess the guard thought she was gonna blow by Brooklyn and Brooklyn blocked her shot trying to get to the rim.

Single digits turnovers surprised me honestly. I am honestly enjoying Zya and Aaliyah handling the ball for us, they definitely are much smarter with the ball in their hands and not throwing it away every possession like last year. One is a scoring PG and the other is a defensive minded PG but also can score as well.

I will also say the chemistry is slowly is coming together but its just not there just yet, once we know each other a lot more in live game actions we will be so much more better. Our defense was ehhh tonight, we had had a few players that played good on defense individually but not as a team, if we can at least play better a defense as a team like we did in the last 2 mins of regular regulation and in OT of the game I think we will be ok defensively.

Anyways good win for the ladies! Boomer!!
