A Little Insight to Pat-Geno Feud!

I can't think of anyone who has even come close to meaning as much to the women's game as Pat. I kind of wish she had retired before the Parker years since I think she was not quite what she had been in terms of character, probably due to the emergence of the illness. She wanted that last title a bit too much.

But, she took her attitude for women's basketball to anyone who wanted to play Tennessee. She came to Oklahoma to help the sport. She did whatever she could do to show what the game should be about.

If she felt that Geno was acting in a manner that was not in the best interests of the game, I can understand her irritation. She had acted in the best interests of the game, and, as the article says, she feared that the integrity of the game would be influenced by the coaches at the top (Mulkey?). She didn't want them hurting what she had spent a lifetime building.

I don't know what Geno did. But, my antipathy for Mulkey given what she did that was harmful to the game helps me to understand why she would be angry. We don't need a virus in the game.

Sounds like Pat got tired of Geno's cheating.

or winning. hell, i was getting sick as hell of UConn beating everyone (us especially) for so long.

sherri and geno seem to be friends, so i'm not sure who's side to take on this... so i'll just stay on ou's side :)

Yeah, I think Geno was crowding Pat at the top! Pat has more important things to worry about now. :(

Take it with a grain of salt. Joe Pa used to imply similar things about Barry Switzer and we all know how that turned out.

You make yourself look extremely foolish when you say these sorts of things.

Truth is, Pat Summitt and Kim Mulkey have a tremendous amount of respect for each other. They have had a strong personal bond for decades.

I know that Pat's retired and it wouldn't happen, but a fun thought:

Final Four of OU, Baylor, UConn, and Tenn.

Sherri and her friend Geno on one side of the press conference, Kim and her friend Pat on the other.

All you would need is someone to yell "MORTAL KOMBAT!" and let the techno music start :)

LOL! :clap:woot

I doubt that Pat and Kim are friends after Destiny pulled some Tennessee hair.

There is a difference between having respect for an opposing coach and being "friends" with them. Even if the second sentence in your post were true (I don't believe it for a moment), the typical Baylor thuggery (see Syb's post above) would tend to dissolve any respect that Pat might feel toward Kim.

Kim might have at one point in her career enjoyed the respect of Pat. Not any more.

Oh sure, Pat will make the requisite polite sounds, but don't be fooled...

LOL! I doubt that ruined any relationships.

I don't really believe the "hype" about any relationships that Kim has, especially this one. The Kims of the world have a difficult time retaining friendships.

I don't mean to sound disrespectful to Pat's current condition, but is it possible that she's not... you know... making new memories and perhaps just remembering people as they were when she was younger at this point?

For certain. But you must remember that truth is the world according to Syb.

Pat has said nothing publicly about Baylor's situation. Given that Pat has been a proponent of honesty and doing the right thing, and her attitude toward perceived recruiting violations against UConn, it would be an almost unimaginable stretch to believe that she condones or forgives Kim's recent cheating in recruiting.

I remember some of the things Sooner fans said about Kurt Budke when he was alive. One would have thought he must be despised in the coaching community from what was written about him. When he died, it was revealed that Sherri admired him a great deal. I haven't seen one bad comment about him since.

People sometimes like to jump to conclusions about things they wish to be true, rather than things they know are true. No one will likely ever know what Pat thinks of Kim.

I don't think anyone ever insinuated that Budke wasn't liked by other coaches. Fans had problems w/ Budke because of his revolving door for players. Budke was never anything but respectful towards opposing players and coaches. You simply can't say the same thing about Mulkey. You are comparing apples to oranges.
