I love Capel!
But i am starting to see that he is just not a good coach at this level...
Hey, every coach looks better when they have great players...like they say, it isnt x's and o's...it's jimmy's and joe's...but when you dont have those jimmy's and joe's, the true ability of coaches comes out...
Look, i know it's early, but with the teams deficiencies on the talent front they have to have an identity...which this team has none...it's not there on defense, not there on offense...
And honestly, i dont know if this OU program under Capel has ever had an identity other than Blake...and that is not good when 1 player is more than the program...
I felt Blake would be the building block to a National Championship under Capel, but last year with plenty of talent he couldnt get it done...i realize there were problems with personalities and agendas, but that is the coaches responsibility to mesh them together for 1 cause...not only did he not get that done, it tore the program from its foundation that Blake helped create...
Reguardless what is accomplished this year, i dont see how he remains the coach past next season...and honestly this season should be his last...unless he gets another Blake he wont win here, and unfortunately i think last year really scared him away from top notch talent, add to that the really questionable recruits he brought in this year when he could have saved a few for some of those top guys next year...
The great thing about this team, is the fact that a few of these guys are going to be around when OU becomes a factor again, giving us some real love for those guys...
I would give anything to be wrong and Capel come out of this and lead the program back to prominance next season, even compete and finish above .500 this season....but lets be honest, it just isnt likely...
