He's proven that you don't have to be at a "blue blood" school to get major recognition and on-court success.

I also appreciate him that much more than he didn't go to KU or UK because I can't stand either of them. But I digress....

If Trae keeps it up and wins one or more major player of the year awards, that'll be three times in a decade for us. That's got to be a good selling point for the program.

Trae’s an intelligent young man. He has been the talk of the college basketball world since before OU knocked off Oregon in the PK80. He has been a topic of conversation on every sports show nearly every day for weeks. Print media and television broadcasters can’t get enough of him.

I honestly don’t see how he could have received more attention at a blue blood school like UK Or KU? IMHO, it would have been less, and I think Trae knows that. He made the right choice by picking OU!

His Dad is the first person who should be thankful for this! :-)

Not to mention the impact Trae playing here will have on future players. There are some kids who idolize Trae and it could impact their perception of OU basketball.

100% correct. Trae would not be doing the things at KU or UK that he's doing at OU because Calipari or Self wouldn't have given him as much freedom as Kruger has. Kruger is doing a brilliant job this year by taking the reins off of Trae & letting him do his thing. Not many coaches would have done that.

I guarantee that, no matter who wins the conference or what OU's record is, Kruger will not win Coach of the Year. It'll go to Beard or Dixon or Huggins because several voters will say, "of course OU was great. They had Trae Young. I could've coached them to 20 wins." It's patently false. As great as Trae is -- and he's most definitely great and, so far, has been the runaway best player in America -- Kruger has gotten more out of him than Calipari or Self or most anyone else would have simply by giving him the ball as often as possible and letting him play.

I got to thinking back to last season when OSU became a local media darling again in men's hoops. Even Dean Blevins reverted to "I can't look like an OU homer" mode one night on "The Sports Blitz" and once claimed that Young was definitely interested in OSU. That would have been even worse than having Trae sign with Kansas or Kentucky.

But, it all ended up just right, as far as I'm concerned. I'm sure the Aggies think all of those moral victories they've piled up makes them "blue blood," but at least they didn't get this true blue blood from Norman North.

This post is what I call hitting the nail on the head. If Kruger does not turn Trae loose in the manner he has Trae might be scrambling to be an All American scoring 15 points and 5 assist a game. The media would just him as one of several great PG's.
