Anderson Out At Missouri - Who Else Gets the Axe

I think weber gets another year. Won his last 2 games, last I saw they were last 4 in. I think tcu and tt are out.

def interesting.

Weber at KSU is on the hot seat, and it will depend how fast KSU can find a new AD. New ADs usually like to bring in their own guys.

Missouri will look at several guys. Cuonzo Martin of Cal would be interesting. Obviously their fans want Crean, but not sure Indiana fires him. Romar is another name they want just because of Porter.

Washington: Really interesting to see what happens. Fans want him fired. Most don't care about Porter because they have Fultz and several other first round picks and still don't have anything to show for it. So that recruiting class might be really good, but not sure the fans care. Not sure what the AD will do though because the buyout is large.

LSU: Jones should be fired. Shouldn't be any question about it.

NC State: is open. Will be interesting to see who they get.

UConn: Not firing Ollie. He's safe. If you look at their recruiting rankings and injuries, this season makes sense. After their national title run, they had like the 40+ recruiting class and then 30+ recruiting class. Last two years they have been in the 20s and then better.

As for Gregg Marshall, I don't see him leaving anywhere but a huge school, like Indiana, or blue bloods.

Shaka's also in the same seat as Weber. If he doesn't make thendancd next season I'm sure he's gone.

I'm not sure I totally agree, but the natives are certainly restless in Austin. If he doesn't get to the NIT at least next year, then he is likely gone.

Also, I stand by my earlier comments from a season ago that Smart wasn't that great of a hire for Texas....they could have hired a much better coach. It seems Texas got caught up in the hype. I think Smart is a "decent to good" coach, but that's about it. He has parlayed his magically Final Four run in 2011 into being mentioned as "one of the great young coaches". Well, other than 2011, he has only won (2) NCAA tourney games total in 5 other NCAA appearances. He also never won a regular season Atlantic 10 title at VCU either (he did win the conference tournament twice).

I thought the guy was a little overrated from day one....and I certainly think he is over-matched on the sideline in most of the conference games he coaches in this conference. The only way he can sustain any type of success in this league is if he recruits to a "near-KU" type of level....IMO.

I thinks the only way Marshall leaves is if it's a blue blood, UNC in a few years maybe.

You're on the right track. He may indeed wait around for a blue blood. Marshall is a Virginia native and an eastern guy. I could also see him at NC State (with Gottfried leaving) or at another good ACC school that is down right now, but has some tradition (Pitt, Georgia Tech).

NC State would be a good fit for Marshall.

He wouldn't out recruit Duke or UNC but he can get good enough players to be competitive. He can flat out coach.

NC State is crazy not to go after him.

Is it time to call VCU a "system school"?

Jeff Capel looked great at VCU and not so much here, barring the Griffin years.
Anthony Grant looked great at VCU and did nothing at Alabama.
Shaka Smart looked great at VCU and has done nothing at Texas.

Now Will Wade is doing quite well at VCU. If I were a fan of a school with a job opening, I would be pulling hard for anyone but him.

Apparently, sources have told Yahoo that UW will retain Romar. They basically don't want to pay the buyout. Doesn't hurt that he has MPJ coming in.

If that is the case, it HAS to be the buyout....It would be hard to argue that no one has done less with more over the last 5 years than Romar. If you go back over the last 5 years of recruiting, Washington has had at least 4 or more guys go to the NBA and yet hasn't made the NCAA tourney any of those years. The thing that makes no sense is that Romar and the rest of the supporters keep pointing to the "if guys would have returned" excuse for why the team isn't as good as they thought they would be the next year and it keeps getting accepted as a valid reason. One or two years sure but not 5+ in a row. A former player came out and said "maybe the recruiting philosophy needs to change".......you think?!?

They haven't all ran the exact same system though, have they?

I think sometimes it's just easier to win at small schools, and for a short period of time. Especially when that school has been winning in recent history. Much tougher to go to a larger school that maybe hasn't been successful, and get them turned around.

I'm not ready to give up on Smart either. I think if he is given another year or two, he'll have UT much improved. He seems to have a lot of qualities that should make him successful.

UW came out last night saying they are still evaluating and won't make a decision until the end of the season. A Seattle paper said people close to Romar truly don't know what his future is.

Also, yahoo reported UGA was looking at others besides Fox at UGA, UGA came out and disputed that report.

FWIW, I expect Romar back at UW. Buyout is too large and that recruiting class is too good to pass on.

I didn't see that. Thanks for the info. If he somehow did get fired, part of me thinks MPJ would give OU a hard look just because of Trae.

It's bizarre to me that nobody can get anything going in the SEC in basketball. Large athletic budgets, tons of talents, and fun schools to go to. Even though it's football first down there, that conference should be much better than it is.

Here's the report http://www.seattletimes.com/sports/...t-uw-but-huskies-say-theyre-still-evaluating/

Like I said, I expect him to stay, mainly due to the buyout. It's just too big for a program so far in debt.

As for MPJ, he'll follow Romar wherever, so I don't think OU would have much of a shot even if Romar was magically fired.

I get what you are saying but that is banking on Romar getting another job worth Porter following him to. What Romar's done the last 5 years isn't worth a major school taking a chance on IMO. That's worse than KSU taking Weber at the time they did. Weber was coming of sub-par years and being fired at Illinois but had 3 20+ win seasons his last 5 years at Illinois. Romar has been around .500 the last 4 years (best record was 19-15) and then finally tanked completely this season with NBA talent on pretty much every one of those teams. To give your program to a guy that hasn't had a 20 win season since the 2011-2012 season for one season of Porter will be a HUGE stretch for any AD to sell to the rest of the people and fans of the University. I'm not saying he's coming to OU but I'll be surprised if Porter is playing for Romar next season if Romar is fired from UW.

Good recruiting areas too: Birmingham, Atlanta, NOLA, Florida, etc. The only thing I can think of is the big basketball ACC schools and Kentucky recruit most of the better talent in those recruiting areas.
