to be near his family.

Weber is going to run the KSU program into the ground. I can just feel it

HUGE loss for them. Wasn't he going to be a senior next year? Strange.

Not sure where he's from and I know he can't transfer in conference but he's terrific. Someone's going to get a heck of a player.

I'm pretty sure he was just a soph. this past season. He is a really fine player.

he was a soph last year. he's from puerto rico, played his last three years of high school in miami.

Wonder if Coach Weber is looking at the list of potential transfers ...

K-State Message Board Discusses:

MANHATTAN, Kan. – Sophomore guard Angel Rodriguez has announced his intention to transfer from the Kansas State men’s basketball program and requested his release, head coach Bruce Weber announced Monday. “After multiple conversations, Angel feels an obligation to be closer to his family,” said Weber. “His mother is raising his two younger brothers all by herself in San Juan and he just wants to be able to see them more often.”

A 5-foot-11, 180-pound point guard from San Juan, Puerto Rico, Rodriguez averaged 9.8 points on 36 percent shooting with 4.2 assists, 2.3 rebounds and 1.4 steals in 25.0 minutes per game in 65 career games. This past season, he averaged 11.4 points, 5.2 assists, 2.1 rebounds and 1.5 steals in 28.2 minutes per game en route to earning All-Big 12 Second Team and Big 12 All-Defensive Team honors from the league coaches. He led the Wildcats in four categories, including 3-point field goals (55), assists and steals, while he was second in scoring and minutes played (28.2 mpg.).

“It is important that everyone understands that this was a really difficult decision,” said Rodriguez. “I have really enjoyed my time here and this decision was based entirely on my family and has nothing do with Kansas State, basketball or the coaching staff. It’s unfortunate after the year we just had, but I just feel right now this is the best thing for me and my family. Whether it is the right choice or not, family has and always will be first with me.”

Rodriguez, who started 33 of 35 games and 50 of 65 games in his career, helped the Wildcats to a 27-8 overall record and its first Big 12 Championship in 2012-13. “We had a great year,” said Rodriguez. “It was the right decision to come here and I don’t regret it all. Coach Weber and his staff made the transition a lot easier than I ever thought it would be. He made me a better player and to play with more confidence. I never thought I would get this close to my teammates. The past few days have been difficult for me, just thinking how this decision would impact them. However, at the end of the day, I have do what I think is best for my mom and my brothers.”

Rodriguez leaves K-State with two years of eligibility remaining in his career, including a redshirt season.

“Angel really had a great season for us and has emerged as one of the top point guards in the country,” said Weber. “His personal improvement this past year was obviously a big factor in our run to the Big 12 title. However, just like the loss of our three seniors, this will be another opportunity for someone else to step up.”

With Rodriguez’s departure, the Wildcats have three open scholarships for the 2013-14 season.

This unexpected transfer is worse than M'Baye unexpectedly leaving early for us. The meltdown on the KSU forum is a form of quick entertainment.

Wow! This is a giant loss for the mildcats. Add in the fact I can't stand this kid and I live in Kansas; I'm a very happy camper!

It will be interesting to see where he winds up. Closer to family is often used as an excuse to leave a program. I'm sure it's cheaper to get from Miami to P.R. than from Manhatten to P.R. though.

The Big 12 just keeps getting worse and worse. This will most likely be the worst the Big 12 has ever been.

It true, unfortunate. It was nice to have someone (besides us, of course) pizz off King Kansas a bit in mens bball.

I know that they still have Old Man Snyder and all, but how long can Coach Grandpa keep that program (co-)winning the Big 12 and in contention?

KSU needs basketball. We need KSU to be basketball-centric, because dammit, Snyder still knows how to fool his star pupil

Stoops is 8-2 against KSU and 7-2 against Snyder. I don't get this statement. OSU, Texas, Tech and A&M have all beaten Stoops more times than KSU. Missouri beat Stoops at least once. CU beat Stoops at least once.

The twice that we lost to KSU it cost us the entire Big 12 title (we had to share it with them last year, and ceded the entire trophy back in 2003).

The other team losses? Meh. KSU losses? Embarrassing. Disappointing. Unexpected. Nationally televised egg laying.

But that's not what you really said in your first post. You implied that Snyder somehow owns Stoops, that he, to quote you directly, "still knows how to fool his star pupil."

If he knows how to fool him, what happened in those seven games he lost to Stoops? Was Snyder just taking it easy on us?

The Big 12 title game defeat was just one of those freak losses; they're undeniably painful but they happen, to every coach, every program.

Last year, KSU was probably better than we were, but we still should have won. I don't think Snyder had much to do with Bell fumbling on the one, a play that might have been difference-maker for the entire game.

One could much more easily argue that Snyder's star pupil has him fooled, but it's funny how, with some fans, all the wins are forgotten, tossed aside, because of one unexpected and admittedly painful loss.

I love our little army of Big 12 title trophies and love that we have so many that Stoops can put different colored M&Ms in each one. I really do. OU is clearly the superior Big 12 program in football.

But, last year's loss really stung and feel like we got schooled by Old Man Snyder. I know that we usually beat KSU before during and after Snyder, but given the stature of our program and the stature of theirs, should we ever lose to them?

OK, I promise to stop talking football on this basketball forum. If you want to further discuss, I promise to take this to the OU football site of your choosing :)

Should Alabama ever lose a game? Losses happen. spoiled OU fans want to get rid of the coachs after back to back to back 10 win seasons. Stoops has only won less than 10 games 3 times, less that 8 once, his first year, and never had a losing season.
