Once again, I apologize for bringing football into your fair basketball board.
I promise that the only OU coach I ever wanted fired was Jeff Capel. Losses are excusable, but what Capel was reportedly allegedly doing on a VERY high pay scale was inexcusable. Let's see if I recall all the ways Capel utterly failed (other than losing):
1- Having a top 5 recruiting budget, and having nothing to show for it.
2- Not being in regular contact with fans nor media, resulting in a lack of coverage of our program, even during successful Blake years.
3- Emailing assistants with concerns, instead of direct contact. He reportedly was complaining to them that he assigned them all a player to keep happy during the Elite 8 year, yet some players were not happy so they were not enjoying an extremely successful year.
4- Not doing more to keep together Kelvin's final class. Calling Dameon instead of visiting in person? No wonder he put his cousin on the phone. And then releasing his scholarship to our Big 12 rival Texas?! And releasing Scottie to our THAT season non-conference opponent Villanova?! ARRRRRRGGGGGGGHHHH
When I see Lon Kruger (and other coaches) giving more than 100 percent effort to promote not only their own program but the entire university, it makes me angry all over remembering Capel's non-effort despite his millions. Coaches like Stoops and Sherri and Lon and the others? You see them in the community. You see them at other programs' games (Lon threw out the first CWS pitch in OKC, Stoops and family go to basketball games, etc.).
So anyways... love our coaches, especially our basketball ones.
