Another reason we didn't keep Capel.

We had a top 5 recruiting budget, and basically got little for it.

I don't know of anything that Capel did well with the exception of Blake coming.

Ours must include what we paid Gallon and TMG to come here. ;)

Tiny and Gallon signed in 2009 this is 2010-2011. The best 2 players we signed were area players in Clark and Neal.

And to think some people on this message board still regard Capel as a good recruiter.

:facepalm

That was also true under Bliss,Tubbs,Sampson; your point?

How do you know this?

You don't. You are dead wrong.

Also, Tubbs had 1 losing season, his first. Kelvin never had a losing season. Bliss took over a program that wasn't quite at the level Capel left it at, but not far from there.

Capel screwed us.

You want me to go down the list of great players both signed? I doubt either had a top 5 recruiting budget in the country.

We spent almost double of any other Big 12 team. Well maybe not Baylor but they are a private school, so we don't know what they spent.

Probably all those flights out east to recruit those east coast ballers.

I can remember us talking about (bragging actually) that our coaching staff was putting in an apearance at every recruiting venue available from one coast to the other. Now we know those trips cost a lot of money, which would be fine if we had more to show for it.

Ugh. From what I've heard it's a shock that Capel wasn't gone last year.

He should have been gone last year...I wasn't following the program nearly as closely as I do now but I have no idea why anyone though we'd be able to have a good season after pulling in a bunch of castoffs (save for Cam).

Recruiting wasn't the big problem, though it was one of them. The issue was with his control and management of the program. He wasn't a head coach of a major basketball program. He refused to give his cell to major local news people and probably to major donors as well. He had terrible contact with his players outside of practice and didn't listen to assistants when they said there was bad blood between players. Joe C called him out repeatedly on mismanagement and poor performance. I believe that even had we made the tourney this year, Jeff was gone.

Sigh... You don't call up your top recruit and cry on the phone, only to have the recruit hand the phone to his cousin so he doesn't have to deal with you. You SHOULD go down to the recruit and tell him in person he has two choices: Come win with us or go to a minor school outside the conference. Capel released two of our best recruits. One killed us the eight times we played him at our most bitter rival, and the other killed us that year on a team that was on our schedule. Had we not been coming off of NCAA problems there is no way we would have stood for this. In hindsight, it was an obvious indicator that Jeff was not ready to take the reigns of a major program.

i dont remember this.. please explain.

also i honestly dont know much about the recruiting process so this may sound stupid but i assume that money is for going to other states & going to tournaments to watch kids? is this correct?

When Capel called Traitor James to re-recruit him, he passed the phone on to his cousin so he didnt have to deal with us.

When Capel first called Damion James after getting the job, James put his brother or cousin on the phone to pose as him.

The recruiting budget is pretty much a travel budget for plane flights, hotels and etc. Going to various AAU tournaments, visiting the kid and of course high school games.
