Any film on Abdi Ahmed

I found a blurb from when he was still in England playing at a prep school but on a "traveling" team. Sorry, no time to find the link, but sounded like he was a monster on the glass, a little "iffy" everywhere else.

I like that he is a 20 yr old Freshman...

I like that too. I wanted to add some players but not fill the team with 18-year old freshmen. I also didn't want to bring in 6 juco players that had trouble qualifying or just weren't good enough for D-1 out of HS. Capel has found a way to do that by getting a kid that has D-1 experience as the point, adding a couple of promising freshmen to go with Taylor/Clark and adding 3 big men that are all 20+ years old.

I like it. My faith in Capel is renewed. I was thinking about changing back my picture, to Capel but you just can't go wrong with Wayman.

I wonder how his game compares to Longar when LL was that age? Both from the same part of the world, although LL had some schooling in the US before he played at OU.

I'm still excited about him though...hope he can help us next year.

That's a good question. I found this while reading the article at the top of the board, his coach seems pretty high on him.

Said Orellana, "In Abdi Ahmed, Oklahoma is getting a post player who is capable of shooting the ball to 19 feet and has a very good back-to-the-basket game. He is a tremendously hard worker who plays the game the right way. He is a player whose best days of basketball are ahead of him.

Sounds like he may be further along than when LL arrived on campus. I like the fact that his coach says he is a very hard worker and plays the game the right way which is exactly what we need right now.

I like the fact that he just spent the last year at an academy that appears to be pretty much basketball 24/7. I'm not as concerned about a lack of stats on a prep team, what he could control he did (shooting percentage, rebounding). Excited to see what kind of player he might become.

From the Tulsa World article stickied to the top of the page:

Ahmed averaged 18 points, 12 rebounds and 2.4 blocks for Canarias last year.

I was going more by the Prep Invitational that posters were commenting on. Looks like he shot about 50% and was solid on the glass. In any event, I'm excited about the kid.
