Just curious to know if anybody is hearing any rumors of a new arena or a complete renovation of LNC? Something needs to happen. I think it would help so much with recruiting and attendance. If I was Moser, I would have wanted to know that this would happen if I signed on.

This. They can’t even raise $20-25MM for a new softball stadium and a program that is winning championships. Forget the raise for a new arena, I just don’t see someone or groups stepping up for the probably $40-50MM to update the LNC.

I also think the whole conversation about LNC being the issue with attendance is just an excuse. As a season ticket holder for 20 years, I’ve never walked out of a game and said that would have been a great game if not for the LNC. If it truly was the arena, all the games we’ve played at the Chesapeake would have been sold out. Far from it.

Yeah I would have loved to see the updates they talked about when the idea of a feasibility study was thrown about a few years ago. The LNC needs some TLC and renovation. But Im more concerned about the product on the floor.

Honestly, if COVID weren't a deal, the Oklahoma State game in Norman this year when we were ranked in the top 10 would have been one of the most nuts environments at LNC in the history of that building.

I feel like I've shared this before, but I'll re-iterate: there are myriad plans out there for a monster LNC renovation, a Fieldhouse overhaul and a brand-new arena. All it takes is money, and if somebody steps up with the dough and a particular affinity for one of the paths then that's the route. Money, money, money.

Don't sleep on Moore building an arena on the north side of Indian Hills. Stranger things have happened.

I tend to agree. I new arena would bring in a full house for a while for the novelty but it won't draw larger crowds once the newness wears off UNLESS we have perfect timing with a sustained period of excellent basketball coupled with the new arena

I really don't like the idea of an off campus arena though. It probably would bring in more attendance but it would really suck for students

I think the "sucks for students" deal is overblown. Plenty of students make it to OKC for Thunder games or to Bricktown to party. They drive to 24th and Robinson to shop Target and eat at Qdoba. Most students at this point in time have a car or a ride if they want to go somewhere. Plus, ride sharing is cheap.

I definitely consider it as being "on campus". I just hope they never go back to the location up in north norman as was once proposed.

And on that note, does anyone else feel like those renderings were released to measure interest in donor support? I just don't know why they would do something like that if there was no chance of it gaining traction or getting approved from the city council. Maybe OU foundation thought it carried more weight then they do?

This isn't a conference realignment board or thread, but: The new TV deals around 2024-25 will be crucial. Right now, OU receives between $35-40M per year as part of the Big 12. When the new SEC TV deal starts in 2023, they will be receiving between $60-65M per year per school. The B1G will be in the same ballpark when they renew around 2025.

OU is locked into a grant of TV rights with the B12 until 2024-25. Any TV money OU receives for home games goes to the B12.

If the B12 can command competitive money, OU will stay home in the B12. If not, a move to the SEC or B1G is on the table. If OU gets SEC-style TV money, they can rebuild and upgrade facilities.
